GET THE F*** OUT. Trust me, I've been there. If you quit due to poor working conditions, you can make your case to service canada and probably get approved for EI benefits.
the partial paychecks is the biggest red flag. If you've kept track of your time, you should easily be able to recover the money thru an ulitmatum with the boss or thru a labour canada claim.

Re: Is this normal for a FTU?
How the @$%# can someone get away with partial paychecks. Ain't that illegal or something? I mean we all have bills to pay too right?
What you need to know is, how to get what you need to know.
This is not a retreat. Its an advance to the rear.
There are only 10 people in this world. Those that understand binary and those that don't.

Hmmm...think I know these guys. Looks like they're looking for new staff.

Hey you're there for the love to teach and love of flying that should be reward enough. That pay check isn't half empty, it is Half Full!!!!
On a side note, if you were not around airplanes would you stay working under these conditions for the wage you receive? If you answered "no" then why are you still there? Believe it or not, there are some jobs in aviation that actually hurt your career (via reputation) even though you are gaining flight time.

No trees were harmed in the transmission of this message. However, a rather large number of electrons were temporarily inconvenienced.

Re: Is this normal for a FTU?
jeeez aviation is weird, I am a tradesman and any of my other tradesman co-workers would be out the door faster than you can say "out the door" if they received a partial paycheck, why is there so little respect and dignity in the aviation industry?
It is shit like this that made me choose another career path.

Sure is! Think they can do things the way they want to and not follow the rules (TC-C.A.R.S and Federal Labour Laws and the ethical treatment of your fellow man).

Re: Is this normal for a FTU?
There are 5 FTUs on the field at YXU. Care to give a hint?
Re: Is this normal for a FTU?
The place in question happen to say C-GVV.. a lot on the radio. They are building a bad reputation in a hurry. Wonder if they are going to pay to have that radio fixed....Aviatard wrote:There are 5 FTUs on the field at YXU. Care to give a hint?

Is this the same one previously discussed with all the Chinese students?Aviatard wrote:There are 5 FTUs on the field at YXU. Care to give a hint?
Re: Is this normal for a FTU?
Nope. I don't think this one has been discussed quite as frequently as the one you are referring to.
Re: Is this normal for a FTU?
Of the five FTU's in London, I'd say only two actually treat their employees like human beings. Sadly, i've been to two and still no luck
Re: Is this normal for a FTU?

Re: Is this normal for a FTU?
Yup that sounds about normal for the FTU's around Canada that I've seen. Quite a few 703 operators as well.mailhauler22 wrote:How would you feel about this environment?
-CFI (Only Class 2 or higher instructor as well) based well out of town (Not on premises for the most part)-Cant have Class IVs
-Your managers working without CIC authorization
-One of your planes repo'd by the maintenance man
-History of complaints to TC resulting in a temporary loss of OC
-Partial paychecks
-Immense pressure to fly students 2-3 times per day
The tip of the iceberg anyways...
What would you guys do?
