Still makes a great debate..............I'll start with a question.
Why do you think the average canadian is willing to spend 3 times the amount on a ticket to watch a millionaire chase a puck on the ice over a ticket on an airline where a guy holds the lives of his entire audience in his hands?

Standby for new atis message
Beechball: Let me put it to you this way, if I were to compare a pimp/drug dealer and a Jetsgo pilot I would have the same amount of respect for each.
Why?
Because my boss tells me that salaries need to be decreased and training bonds instituted to "keep up with industry standard. Look at Jetsgo for example."

You said it man. Most passengers take airline transport and pilots for granted these days. How many times have you heard this, "them planes fly them self's now, the pilot just tells it where to go"Jaques Strappe wrote: Why do you think the average canadian is willing to spend 3 times the amount on a ticket to watch a millionaire chase a puck on the ice over a ticket on an airline where a guy holds the lives of his entire audience in his hands?
Looks like Jetsgo lost 55 Million Dollars in the past 8 months alone!!

As pilots we're all truly sorry to hear of more pilots losing their jobs. After reading all these posts, this seems to be the one thing we all agree upon (some more sincere than others). I think we all agree that 'pay-for-training' or bonds needs to be changed, or even better, eliminated. None of us, including Jetsgo pilots should have to shoulder 30k debt when they lose their job to no fault of their own. I still haven't heard definitely if JG pilots will be required by contract to payback the loan on their own if the company goes under. Can one of you guys speak up please.
I hope the Jetsgo pilots squawk loudly to the media about this situation so that we can get the ball rolling on this issue. We not only need to attack this problem as a group, but we need to solicit public support if we really want to get anywhere. What are the chances these JG pilots will be able to risk another bond for a new employer when they've got 20-30K debt. You JG guys got nothing to lose, so start squawking 7700....loudly!

The problem is that the public is CLUELESS when it comes to anything aviation-related. We're all overpaid good ol' boys with southern drawls and confident swaggers as we stride through international terminals toting our weathered flight bags and shiny golden epaulettes, on our ways to five star hotels in Paris or Prague. We all signed up for flight school and we're on the big iron the following month, just trying to figure out what to do with all the dough that came rollin' in.EPR1.6 wrote:We not only need to attack this problem as a group, but we need to solicit public support if we really want to get anywhere.
Most people have NO clue. Heck, most of my friends (not pilots) don't even get it, no matter how much I explain it to them. I doubt you'll ever find much sympathy in the layman.

It sucks to lose your job, but every one I've lost, I've learned from.
I'm still in flight training, and after this Jetsgo fiasco, I can honestly say, "I'll NEVER pay for a job!" I don't care who the employer is!
I have seen the light! Oh glorious day! My eyes are wide open, and my heart is free! Hallelujah!!
I'm going out to preach the gospel now boys and girls!
All of Satan's PPC sellers and bond takers beware! The plane's a comin'!! And us pilots are all a gettin' on board. We're gonna ride that plane right up to the sky with one hand on the the yoke, and one on our wallets. And there ain't no boss gonna take our hands off!!
Gonna get a NEW job!
Gonna get a BETTER job!
Gonna get a DECENT PAYIN' job!
Gonna get a job where there's respect because I, and no one else, held my head up HIGH and said, "NO, SATAN!! ... I WILL NOT buy that job!"
Now some of you still might not be believers. You'll take the food off your table to give to an owner who doesn't respect you because you buy your slavery. Well, here's a telegram. We're all prostitutes. That's right, that's right. All of us.
But you, the one putting on the epaulets and leaving the house in your raggedy coat with that freshly bought PPC in the pocket. You're worse than a prostitute. As the apostle Cat Driver said, "At least the prostitute doesn't PAY to get fucked!!"
So brothers and sisters, keep this in mind:
When we keep our money in our pockets, when we keep our money in the bank, or in non-aviation stocks, we will be able to speed up that day, when all of us, pilots and AME's, tower and rampies, TC inspectors and owners, will join hands on the apron and sing in the words of the old pilot spiritual,
"FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST!! THANK GOD ALMIGHTY, FREE PPC'S AT LAST!!"

That answer is real simple. They pay the price because they can't get it any cheaper at the next counter. Why do you think the average canadian is willing to spend 3 times the amount on a ticket to watch a millionaire chase a puck on the ice over a ticket on an airline where a guy holds the lives of his entire audience in his hands?
If we are using hockey as the analogy to explain the woes at JetsGo then this is a perfect example of why you can't just buy your way into the big times. People must realize from this experience just because you have some cash it doesn't automatically allow you access to the majors. Less than 1% of all hockey players ever make it to the majors even though many have lots of money. Either you have what it takes or you stay in the juniors and no amount of money can change that. Aviation is no different!!

Jetsgo Ceases Operations
Jetsgo Ceases Operations
MONTREAL, March 11 /CNW/ - Jetsgo Corporation announced today that it is
ceasing all operations effective immediately.
Passengers - fu&ked out of their money - are forced to make alternative travel arrangements prior to going to the airport as there will be no Jetsgo staff or aircraft available. Travellers seeking to return to their point of origin must purchase another ticket with a reputable airline or with their travel agent or tour operator. Jetsgo will be asking that the Quebec Superior Court immediately grant it protection under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act. Court protection will allow Jetsgo to consider all options available to keep the money it has embezzelled from its employees and customers, but that court protection will not protect our crooked President – Michel Leblanc - from the ambush that he may find during the drive home from the hearing that will essentially allow our crooked President – Michel Leblanc – to go free. Given difficult market conditions resulting from competitive pressures in the Canadian airline industry, Jetsgo has determined that it is prudent to take $30,000.00 from each pilot; money from many passengers; and then, discontinue its operations and ground all of its planes.
Michel Leblanc, President of Jetsgo, said: "We deeply regret that this had to happen. The decision to cease operations was taken before we closed our sales offices, but that information was not provided to the public. Since we were not able to get more money from our pilots, our only recourse was to keep our sales offices open, take money from customers, and then cease our operations. We at Jetsgo, and our crooked President – Michel Leblanc - realize that this would be considered fraud in any other country, but in Canada – especially in Quebec - we are confident that we will emerge from this unscathed. We are not concerned about our customers and the significant hardship that this action causes. In fact, our answer to you all is this… Justgo Fuc& yourself and contact your travel agent or a reputable alternative airline."
Jetsgo intends to keep its stake, including its employees and customer’s money. Information and Court filed documents regarding the CCAA proceedings will be available on Jetsgo's website at http://www.jetsgo.net as well as on RSM Richter Inc.'s website at http://www.rsmrichter.com and will regularly be updated.
Information may also be obtained by communicating with RSM Richter Inc. by
telephone at 1-800-246-1125.
If you are a customer of Jetsgo and have paid for a flight that is no longer scheduled, you may wish to communicate with the Canadian Transportation Agency: by telephone, 1-888-222-2592, by fax, 1-819-953-5686 or on its website at http://www.cta.gc.ca, or the appropriate provincial authority, since we at jetsgo, simply don’t care!

Hmmmm
My freind did a little hacking. It appears that the notice on jetsgo's web site was written on December 24, 2004. Interesting I thought! I wonder what the Quebec Superior Court would think of this. Actually, I doubt they would care.

Correction folks: Not all rules pertaining to this event are the same in all provinces. All those Manitoba residents who purchased tickets with Jetsgo over the internet are covered 100% by the Provincial government of Manitoba and that came into law in 2001 for Manitoba........so people should check with their local provincial governments first if they purchased tickets via the internet. Many people also have items such as this covered in the Homeowner's Insurance Policies or via their VISA, MC or Amex Express.

EPR1.6 wrote:Jetsgo on the news tonight. They mentioned the 30k bond but it was barely a blip in the whole story. Come on JG pilots, make more noise about it please....
Why would "Joe Average" care? What does the general public even have to do with the bond? As aviation professionals, we have nobody to blame for the bond but ourselves. Jetsgo was able to get enough qualified individuals under the terms that they offering that they were able to continue this. So what does "Joe and Betty Average" have to do with this? Do you launch an indepth background check on the products you buy, the countries that they are produced in, and the pay level and work conditions of the people who produced the product?
Avoiding bonds depends on the solidarity of the professional group. The day pilots stop sending resumes to companies that treat workers unfairly, REGARDLESS of how attractive the equipment is, is the day we are empowered and can have a profession that is financially and emotionally rewarding.
Ah man, sorry to cite myself AGAIN, but it still holds true:

Well said PJ! Whats it going to take for pilots to understand this concept. How many more have to get burned before they are willing to stand up and say 'no way'. We need to be empowered, but certainly there is a lack of solidarity against this issue, and so it will not be achieved. We seem to need all the help we can get...even if it is 'Joe public'.
