The 196 is incredible - the update speed will blow you away, compared to older GPS's with slower processors.

The "panel" with the emulated gauges (HSI, T+B, ASI, VSI) is pretty neat and actually works under the hood, but I mostly use the moving-map page with big numbers showing bearing, track, distance and eta on the right hand side.

Be careful about vibration - all GPS's have problems with battery/spring arcing and the GPS's dropping offline due to voltage drop. Hook up a 12 volt feed.

It's only black and white, though. I'd like colour, but I think it would eat batteries with a colour screen that size.

Bottom line: it's not cheap, but if you get one, you won't be disappointed.
