Garmin 400W

Post by privateer »

Quick question. I'm doing a cost analysis of installing a new Garmin 400 in a King Air. If I have an approved Maintance facility etc. how much would it cost to purchase just the unit and whatever else I need, Annunciators, antenna etc. This would be for replacing an older unit in the airplane already.

Thanks!

depending on thwe unit, not worth it, there are very few Waas approaches and other than the nice little screen showing the procedure turn in color there really isn't anything to get worked up about. Don't forget the cost of the STC, and the necessary testing to get it aircraft certified.

You will more than likely also run into trouble buying "Just the unit" if you are not a Garmin dealer. Lot's of places will not sell these units unless they are installing them also.

Are you looking at just the 400W not the 430W? I'll give you costing for both. Obviously not including installation, a 400W system (Includes Manuals, Antenna and all other accesories) Approx $6000. You can get a little better deal with that if you buy it where you're getting it installed. A 430W same deal with all the goodies $7500. These are US prices with about a 5% markup from Dealer cost. You also have to keep in mind that you need Terrain and Database cards. Garmin has already looked after your STC# SA01933LA. Not sure the model of the King Air but you will find it I'm sure in the Approved Model list for that STC. Since you're an AMO you should be able to cover this under a Major Mod with some approaches done with TC. TC will recognize the FAA STC I can't remember if there is a TC STC. To WAAS certify TC will need to do a WAAS approach so if you don't base it near one you could just stick with non WAAS. Garmin does not make non-WAAS units anymore either.
