Re: Amelia: The Movie
am I to believe that this is based on a true story??? The lion(s) are true to fact????
Why has this NOT won 18 Oscars then????? The best scene imho is when the racist chubby redneck walked into the African American's room and asked him if he'd share a bottle of 100 year old whiskey with him after the AfAmerican saved his life...
"...is it because I saved you life today?"
Chubby white redneck..."no..it's because I was a pompous ass to you..."

Re: Amelia: The Movie
Just spent 10 bucks and 2 hours watching this movie. The only slightly exciting part was me recognizing Union Station and YTZ, and saw the tail of a Porter Dash -8 sticking out behind Swank's head...

Damn, but my curiosity got the better of me ...TG wrote: It's two lions the "escadrille Lafayette" had![]()

History doesn't tell what has become of them. The Escadrille had a reputation for daring, recklessness, and a party atmosphere. Two lion cubs, named "Whiskey" and "Soda", were made squadron mascots.

The two lion mascots “Whiskey” and “Soda” were sent to a Paris zoo where they lived out their days.

Back to Amelia - while I haven't seen the movie, I saw a documentary on Discovery the other day. Sure sounds like they've found her. http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2009/10/2 ... rhart.html“Soda” and “Whiskey” surrounded by some of the pilots on the lions’ last day, 15 October 1917, with the squadron. Commandant Philippe Fequant ordered the lions removed after “Whiskey” playfully knocked him down and chewed his tunic and cap. The lions were sent to a zoo in Paris.

Funny how I would call "history" my own brain's memory or knowledgeTG wrote:History doesn't tell what has become of them.

So...I guess only one of their descendants went into show business. The two lion mascots “Whiskey” and “Soda” were sent to a Paris zoo where they lived out their days.
Looking forward to see the Amelia movie!

The main question this thread raises is why in the hell have we never heard of giant coconut crabs?yourlink wrote:"The reason why they found a partial skeleton is that many of the bones had been carried off by giant coconut crabs.
Giant Coconut crabs-you'd think I would have heard something about giant coconut crabs before this.
Sure, a person couldn't be expected to know beetles make up 25% of all lifeforms,or something ,that's no surprise- but I would remember hearing about a giant coconut crab.
I walked past the TV yesterday-History Channel. Apparently Admiral Nimitz said she was a prisoner of the Japanese on Saipan. They had the Marine that found her briefcase on

Spying for Roosevelt, she was.
Then there was the guy with exacto-match photos, that showed that she was returned to the U.S, and died a renamed New Jersey Housewife in 1980.

Yea and most likely when she did return to the states, she bore a son.

I wouldn't be surprised if the coconut crab killed her and ate her. Jesus Christ look at that fucking thing!
Saw Amelia tonight, neat movie. I want an Electra.
But did this not seriously bother people?

LMFAO!"The actors don’t make a persuasive fit, despite all their long stares and infernal smiling. ...the movie is a more effective testament to the triumphs of American dentistry than to Earhart or aviation."

I smell OSCAR!!!
If history has anything to say about this, Hillary Swank does have a tendency to win Oscars playing females who get killed doing things that are considered (at the time) "masculine".
