Thank You Sean
About ten years ago I hired a young pilot named Sean, for his first VFR charter job.Sean turned out to be an exceptional pilot. Loved by his customers and employers alike. During his time with me my confidence in Sean grew and I rewarded him with a float endorsement in our Amphibious Beaver.
After about a year business slowed down and I knew Sean needed to advance in the industry so I recommended he apply to PCA; which he did. I gave the chief pilot a call and a good recommendation for Sean and they hired him. Not necessarily on my recommendation, but hire him they did.
To make a long story short, Sean is with westjet now and established in a good flying carreer at 29 years of age.
Yesterday Sean showed up at my door with a wonderful 60th birthday gift.
Thank you Sean

Happy birthday Bob!! And, kudos to Sean - class act!!!

Happy Birthday Mr. Bates. That's amazing. Goes to show you the impact you had on him, and the appreciation he has for you because of it. Thanks for putting faith in a young pilot. All the best

Re: Thank You Sean
What a great story, but I thought I had been your favourite Bob? Remember, all the weekends I used to cover the Beaver for you in Powell ? You probably don't even remember me, it hurts.
But you must be doing something right because I got into WestJet over 9 years ago. Who do you know????

This industry needs more people like you to put faith and trust into capable low time pilots.
Happy Birthday Bob and I wish you the best !

Thanks everybody'
I posted this thread to thank Sean and most importantly to display an example of what happens when pilots and employers treat each other with proper respect and consideration.

Actually, I never said which day I turned 60. It wasn't the day
Sean visited.
Lets just say I have pitch black hair for a good reason.
