How about yes and no.
Yes Jazz isn't the reason AC finds itself in its present situation.
No it is not a smoke screen. Nor a band aid approach. The employees are just fed up already. fix it. Everything. Now.
The concept is simple. Cost must go down. Costs will either go down in CCAA or out of CCAA.
So rudder what is your bet? In or out of CCAA?
If it is out? Jazz trades yield for an extended CPA term? Or Jazz trades fleet composition for an extended CPA term?
Maybe there is another option to pass along reduced cost?
I like the Q400 rumor. IMO it is about time. That aircraft is a far better fit than any 50 seat RJ will ever be. It will provide a tough cost base for WJ to compete with on thinner city pairs.
It's Been a few months now for this thread.
Thought id spark it up again,
Any word or rumours on up coming hiring in the Jazz world with WestJet, and Porter having Ground Schools slated for the New year?
Heard a rumour of Air Canada running a ground School also in the New Year.
No plans for hiring at Jazz. The company is expediting recurrent training for line pilots so they won't have to do any training during the Olympics. Can't imagine they'll be running new hire courses until that party's over.
When did fin 155 go back to the lessor, November 1st? Just curious because I just flew it on the 30th of October and maybe I was the last guy to land it in Jazz colours.... I have been told that fins 153-160 and 125, 126 were to start being returned in January but if they've moved it up that's news to me. Just curious if you know the timetable for the rest of the fins going back.

Just wondering if you have heard anything about when the next hiring process will begin at Jazz.... I'm hoping for spring sometime, but will it most likely be in the fall? Any info is appreciated.
Unless a miracle happens I do not see the company hiring soon. We have quite a few pilots on reduced blocks and LOA's, as well as the block credits are at the bottom end of the scale...not to mention an obscene amount of pilots on reserve.

I would argue this is overly pessimistic. We are on a winter sked, which traditionally is slower than summer months. My understanding is the company has just received or flying hours from Air Canada, which should shed some like on shortly on our crewing requirements. Not to mention it sounds like Westjet is starting to spool things up again, and they have in the past hired a fair number of our pilots, which of course will create the need for hiring. I don't want to get anyone's hopes up, since i have no inside information of any kind, just a gut feeling. But I would actually argue that you will see us hiring a small number of guys in the late spring.Though that's just a hunch, so take it with a grain of salt.

Ya we do have a lot of guys on reserve right now but I can tell you for FOs there has been no shortage of work. I have worked everyday so far this month and have covered RJ flying in YVR and YUL this month and I am YYZ based. Seems to me that maybe some our bases need a few more guys on reserve?

following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
Hmmm and now just got called out to cover RJ in YYC. So far I have worked at every base this month already besides YHZ due to no RJs there. Also I have worked every single day that I have been on reserve this month. Anyone else been doin this? Something is not right here. So many guys on reserve in YYZ and barely anybody in the other bases? What a strange way to run a company.

If I were you, I wouldn't say a word if you like your YYZ base...
personally I would be rather on reserve in YYZ and get called out and world routes out of other bases compared to being on reserve out of YYC, YUL or YVR.
let them run the company how they want to as long as I get what I want at the end.
just my 2 cents.
and I have also worked every day on reserve plus WDOs
But surely Jazz does not have any pilots sharp enough to convert onto the 757. From what I've seen the jump to a retractable twin must have been hard going for the average Jazz pilot.
