Navigating the CARs
Been looking for the currency requirements of a PPC for Schedule 2 type aircraft (over 7000MTOW) for air taxi operations. Closest information I could find was in 723.88 which gave no indications as to the conditions of currency after the 12month period. I have a PPC on an aircraft which I haven't flown in 13months and I'm looking to see what it will take to renew or become current again to put it back on the resume in hopes of getting back to work. Thanks for the help.

A PPC is valid for two years, and I believe a PCC is good for one. 722.67.

Basically, you need annual training to validate your PPC. If it has been over 12 months since you did a ride, and you haven't received the required annual training, your PPC is invalid.

Re: Navigating the CARs
Thanks for the information. So basically I'm looking at having to do an "initial" ride all over again. Found lots of interesting stuff, sad to say it looks like i'm going to have to either pay for time on the machine for the required time or find a company that is willing to put in the little extra $ to fund a "re-ride" type situation. Thanks again for the info.

Re: Navigating the CARs
In addition to doing the annual training laid out in the Company Operations Manual, you also have to do a "simulated flight test" which covers all the items on a PPC after training is complete .... OR .... do some new form of training for the same duration as a "ride" would normally be. Both can be done by a qualified Training Pilot.
So prior to the end of the first year of the PPC validity, you do annual training, followed by a "Training Pilot Ride." The only difference between the 12 month and the 24 month point is who conducts the ride ........ and whether the Flight Test Report form is submitted to TC, or the "simulated ride" done by the Training Pilot simply left on your training file as it would be for the 12 month ride.
You should note that unless you complete the training prior to the one year expiry date, "you've turned to toast," and everything is reset. You would then need to do a ride with a TC Inspector (they never get out of the office any more) or with a DACP in your area.

You have to do a PPC ride. The PPC is only good for one year, and if you do training in lieu of a ppc it can be extended (under the exemption) to two years. If you don't do the training in time (1st day of the thirteenth month) the PPC expires.

Re: Navigating the CARs
As everyone mentioned, if the training isn't completed before the first day of the 13th month following your ride, your PPC is expired and a new ride needs to be done. That said, you don't need the initial ground school, training and ride. A recurrent is sufficient because your ride is less than two years old.
Excuses are like asses, everyone has one, and no one wants to hear yours.
