Missing Aircraft Located Near Cat Lake First Natio
Posted by Mike Ebbeling on Monday, November 9th, 2009 am 6:32:01 AM

3-people have been killed in a plane crash about 20-kilometres outside Cat Lake First Nation.
An official at CFB Trenton says the wreckage was spotted by the crew of a Hercules airplane from the base on Sunday evening.
Search and rescue technicians jumped from a Griffon Helicopter to the scene.
The Lockhart Air Service charter plane with 3-people aboard left Sioux Lookout for Cat Lake on Friday.
The plane was reported overdue late that evening and a search was launched.
No word yet on the identities of the victims.

HIGH FLIGHT

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Names of Plane Crash Passengers Released
Posted by Mike Ebbeling Courtesy of the Canadian Press on Monday, November 9th, 2009 pm 12:03:54 PM
The Cat Lake First Nation has identified 2 of the 3-men who were killed in a plane crash just outside the community.
Russell Wesley says Ronald Ombash and Dean Meekis both died in the crash after witnesses say the pilot aborted a landing at the Cat Lake airport Friday night.
He says Meekis and Ombash ran Cat Lake's youth programs and were well respected.
Wesley says their deaths are a great loss for the community and grief counseling has been made available to those who want it.
Howard Lockhart, who used to own but now works at Lockhart Air Services in Sioux Lookout says the male pilot had been flying for 25 years and it ``makes no sense how it all it happened.''
The Transportation Safety Board is investigating.

I'm at a total loss for words. Mere words alone, while offering some comfort and support, can not begin to sum up the feeling of loss, and support, the rest of the industry actually feels about this tragedy. The folks at Lockhart Air can rest assured we all feel a great sense of loss. But to a small air carrier, something like this must be devastating in a way that would be hard to understand for most.
My thoughts are with you. The company. The families. Everyone involved. Truly sorry for your loss.

Terrible news that no one survived.
Even though it didn't end positively, a job well done to those conducting the air and ground search operation. The Canadian Forces, Northstar Air, and everyone else involved.
