JetsGo Pilot Fund

I would like to start a fund to aid all JetsGo pilots and their families especially those that just started.

I will be asking the Admin @ Avcanada to the primary holder of the funds as donations come in.

Anyone have any thoughts on how best and efficient potential funds can be distributed?

Onec it's all set-up let us know.

My sympathy goes to all Jetsgo Employees.

Man I am glad I don't work for a low cost carrier.

Take notice of WJ fare, they'll go up again as before.

You idiot, WJ is offering a very low rate to stranded SG customers to help them get home.

Airfare hike forecast as passengers fume at Jetsgo

TORONTO - An analyst warned consumers to brace themselves for higher airfares, as thousands of Canadians scrambled Friday to find alternate travel arrangements after discount airline Jetsgo shut down overnight.

Rick Erickson, an independent aviation analyst in Calgary, said that until Jetsgo dropped its bombshell announcement, passengers this summer could have expected cheap prices and lots of options from a highly competitive industry.

But with the sudden disappearance of Jetsgo – the country's third largest airline and had from 7 to 10 per cent of the domestic airline market – Erickson predicted travel options will drop notably.

"Get ready and look forward to it: the air carriers are going to start tightening up a little bit on their fare brackets here," he told CBC News.

"Prices are not going to be so cheap in this quarter or the next."

Good. I hope prices go up a little to reflect all the costs that go into running an airline and maintaining airplanes. Perhaps if costs go up, then pilots will get paid what they should.

WJ has sold out all their discount airfares (there weren't many) and are now charging full rate. AC on the other hand is offering JG stranded passengers Jazz discount airfares on all main line routes plus AC is adding bigger aircraft to help reduce the overflow..

As far as discount fares go, its about time that everyone charged the true cost of flying.

A fund for JetsGo pilots, are you kidding, where was the Inter-Canadian, Air Atlantic, Canjet1, C3 fund?

We are all big boys and girls and know what this industry is like, we take chances and educated, or lack of, guesses on where to work. I'm not funding out of work pilots, thats for the government.

However I am truly sorry for the JetsGo employees that are out of work because of a poorly managed company.

A fund...........hmmmmmm

Here we have been complaining about how the $30k training bond has lowered the expected lifestyle for airline pilots in Canada, how it hurts our industry. We have debated the issue of paying for a job.

Now a SG fund? Assuming there was one, you would have to expect that a large portion of that fund would be used to pay off said training bond.

How ironic.

HAve you seen where your tax dollrs have been diverted to...from Bombardier over the years...to political dictators in 3rd world countries driving around in Benz's on the same streets where their own people are dieing of famine and sickness...

I do have some sympathy with those SG pilots who were unemployed from Royal, C3, Inter-Canadi>n etc... who just needed a job. I wish them the best. Most just wanted or needed to stay in YUL or YYZ and knew what they were dealing with in terms of ML. I really hope WS takes some of them on.

I have much less sympathy for those who were not really qualified and decided to skip the regionals by buying a job. They should have stayed in their Georgian 208s & 1900s. If they quit a job to go work for a guy with ML's track record and paid 30 grand to do it then they showed poor decision making and lack of (industry) situational awareness. I've talked to a couple of the interviewers here at WS and I think they feel the same.

Wear a paper hat at McDonald's, don't be surprised when you get orders!

Hey, Blaster seems to be an airline genious, maybe he will start up an airline and hire them all.

The situation with the F/As and CSAs is truly sad. From what I've seen of them WS could use some of the F/A talent SG had.

ROFL, the guys who jumped ship created jobs for everyone at those places, the charters lost guys to fill their seats.

They did many a short term favour...

Wrong, the WestJet fares have not gone up. There are 6 fare levels on all flights and as the plane fills up the fares go up. With Spring break around the corner most flights had already been booked at the lower fares. What is left is no different now than at any other time. Jetsgo executives created a false environment and tried to force WestJet, Air Canada and CanJet into a price war and look at the results. My heart goes out to the unsuspecting Jetsgo employees caught in the collapse. They even stranded their pilots and crews at whatever airport they were at when the announcement was made. The only aircraft returned to Montreal were the Fokkers. WestJet was the first airline to jump into the breach with specially created fares just after midnight and the call centre remained open instead of closing at its usual time of 0100 Mtn time and handled calls from angry, exasperated and frustrated Jetsgo passengers right though until approximately 6-7 am that morning when there was nothing left as the flights were pretty well full.
WestJet will always try to show compassion and understanding and help where ever possible.

All you Jetsgo guys, sorry to hear about the recent events. We're here for ya boys! Get those resumes into WestJet and get back on the saddle. After all, we jet guys have to stick together.
