Good reminder, Check Pilot. Thanks.

I enjoyed the video. The comments made by some you-tubers are a little discouraging though aren't they?

So very many gave their lives so that we can enjoy the freedoms of our everyday lives...for that I'll always be thankful.

Lest We Forget

Lest We Forget. I hope everyone took the time to remember our Vets on this 11th day of the 11th month.

Toast to those serving our beloved Canadian Forces; Past, Present, and Future.

Be sure to head over to the local Wing or Legion and have a round for our men and women. :partyman: :drinkers:

Great song CP.

Eric Bogle has written two of the greatest (anti) war songs ever, The Green Fields Of France, and The Band Played Waltzing Matilda. There are many covers of each one, but here's my favourite versions.

I once saw Eric Bogle perform this song in, Calgary, in a pub I forget the name of. It was just him pounding away on a piano. At the beginning of the song there was the usual pub noise. Halfways through the song he had everybodys attention, and for two seconds at the end you could have heard a pin drop. Then people began standing, and the applause went on for what seemed like 5 minutes.

On November 11, as an ex-member of the Royal Canadian Regiment of Canada, it was my true honour, and privilege to march in the Remembrance Day Parade in London, Ontario.

As I marched with the Royal Canadian Regiment Association, flanked by a veteran of the Korean War and a veteran of Peacekeeping Operations in Cyprus, I felt ...that I had done absolutely nothing in my decade of military service in the Reserves to qualify me to march shoulder to shoulder with such men of character and accomplishment.

The Parade Regimental Sargent Major Sam Carr was a man I have respected for over 40 years, and it was wonderful to once again snap to attention under his still strong and clear vocal commands.

As the band began to play, and we started to march, I was somewhat disappointed in the small crowd, until we rounded a corner onto the main parade route. Then I saw people lined up 15 to 20 deep along both sides of the road as far as I was able to see into the distance.

It was a human sea of supporters, all wearing poppies.

Although I was in full soldier mentality at that moment, it was a struggle to hold back tears seeing that impressive sight and knowing what it signified.

The ceremony at the cenotaph went very well, and then we were to march off a few blocks to the designated dismissal area.

As the band struck up, we fell into step with our heads high, shoulders back, and chests out at the quick march. This is where the crowd of spectators really made an impression on me .... they were clapping continuously, and hard. Above all, many, many were shouting a simple "Thank-you" which really meant a great deal to all of us.

Then we reached the end of the parade route, they marched off the colours, and we dismissed for another year.

I've done many things in my life which resulted in public adulation, recognition, or reward, but this day ranks up there as one of the most significant things I've done.

To march with my old Regiment as a physical body to signify the sacrifice had been made by so many that had gone before me to represent their memory was exceptionally humbling.

Great post Foggy. It's heartening to see so many Canadians expressing pride in our military once again. It's as if that pride had skipped a generation. Understandable, I suppose, when it's pounded into your head that Canadians are a nation of peacekeepers above all, while ignoring the fact that we are also a nation of peacemakers when called upon to be so.
