So what do people think of Sunwest Home Aviaiton is calgary. Good place to work? Good pay? Any training bonds? Everyone seems to like North Cariboo, but how about the guys across the field?

At Sunwest, no matter what you come in with, you have to start in their Metroliner. At least thats what they told me in the past. They have a large fleet as I'm sure you've seen on the website. For the most part over the years, I have heard its a solid company, but lately have heard some contradicting statements regarding working there from various sources including a current employee.

It's an incredible place to work. They take very good care of all of their employees. Aircraft are well maintained, and great money. Majority of the hireing is done from recomendation and word of mouth. Alot of hireing from the ramp. Good luck.

they hire guys direct on the 350 and yes training bonds or at least they did at one time, also for recurrent.

Man if that is all they pay you might as well work for CMA....

I thought they paid better than that though?

Good place to work.

24000 sounds low for the 1900. There pay scales are quite competative. Good benefits. Good schedule which includes 3 weekends a month off. They pay for work on days off, amount depends on type and position. Per Diems are really good.

Starting on or flying a metro is not a definate. They have been looking for people with time on type. This is not due to PPC hunting, but more of a need to meet minimum requirements for minimums requested by the client for the crew members.

Upgrades based on performance, hours needed for contracts and time at company.

Good benefits, with profit sharing and matched contributions to RRSP. Excellent aircraft and solid maintenance. Best of all, they demand safety and flying within the regulations and numbers.

Hiring from the ramp or office is rare. They do hire pilots for these positions but have had a hard time fitting them in due to contract requirements. There have however been some upgraded, but there are quite a few waiting right now.

I called out there a while ago and this lady told me that they don't hire pilots on the ramp she said they were looking for people who would work on the ramp long term. Don't know she might have been trying to brush me off.

Sunwest will not hire off the ramp anymore as of about 2 weeks ago. They will also not hire pilots to work the ramp and that has been like that for 6 months. The way to get on a Sunwest is to have your best friend who is in managment reference you, and to have 2 different PPC on 2 different types of Sunwests planes. I almost forgot that you need about 1500 PIC and 1500 Multi. If you have all that they might call you.

As far as $24k start on the 1900, that's what I've heard as well. I've also been told that it is "negotiable", take that for what it's worth. Aside from that, from what I've seen Sunwest is a well run company and the people there all seem to really enjoy themselves. If charter is your thing, it's a great place to be.
