believe it or not, the cockpit of the 3 is rather small. when Jim Smith (RIP) used to fly, he actually used to put one cheek off the seat and lean practically into the gallyway and he wasn't 6'7". funnier than hell to watch.

Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
did anyone notice how when they were on the S/E appch into yellowknife they said that there is no option for a go-around because they wouldn't be able to climb..............??????????
Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
They also said they had a 200' cig, looked considerably better than that..whatever, its all for the drama. Needless to say and I have never got near to a c46 - nor would I - your not likely to do much climbing with #2 unfeathered, but they were likely dead mt and light on fuel so who knows but the guys that were flyin the crate. All in all, it looks like a classless op.
You will never live long enough to know it all, so quit being anal about it..

Why?CanadianEh wrote:I saw the first episode... unbelievable!

I'm not asking that in a general sense, because I'm sure the North is a challenging place to fly and there are many good and great pilots there, but why in the context of just having watched this asshattery?

Because it seems to be one of the last places in Canada where real piloting of large aircraft still exists.Ogee wrote:Why?CanadianEh wrote:I saw the first episode... unbelievable!

And it's not only because of this "asshattery" that I want to fly up north - aviation has been passed down to me from my father who was a Northern pilot for most of his career. Oh the stories I've heard and pictures I've seen, I want to experience that for myself. Maybe not the extent of Buffalo airways, but nonetheless, I want to do a stint up North on my way up the ladder.

Episode 2 looks good.............
New DC 3 F/O hire 'Dog' Chapman does his first solo run from the 'Knife' down to Hay River on the sked. Buffalo Joe takes evening off (and left seat empty) to wine and dine Beth who is the new Ops Manager.
Baby Lisa to entertain all of the 'rookie' pilots down at the local watering hole............"when I'm not bounty huntin' I'm peelin"............says Baby Lisa.
Leland jumps ship and heads over to Tindi.............

Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!

Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
Why do you find that puzzling? The engine that was shutdown would not feather. The added drag from the windmilling prop meant they were now "Test Pilots" and there was no guarantee that they could climb in that condition.abeam pointe blanche wrote:did anyone notice how when they were on the S/E appch into yellowknife they said that there is no option for a go-around because they wouldn't be able to climb..............??????????
Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
Id venture to guess that a c46 would clunk around mt for a circuit with one fan windmilling unfeathered, who knows?

Without a doubt Buffalo graduates are all over the world, you will find them at AC, WJ, KLM, Emrates, Cathay, and on and on. If you can make it to a flying seat, you have proven you have work ethic, if you can make it to a command seat, you have proven you can handle one of these old girls in some of the toughest flying conditions that the world has to offer. Sometimes when we look at resume's and it is same ol, same ol, but when we see a resume with long term northern experience flying something bigger then a Twin Otter, it peaks our interest. Anyone who can fly a DC3, DC4, or C46, understands the concept of stick and rudder, you would not believe the number of new hire's over the years who didn't.
I'm sure eventually Mr Blue will move on from BFL, and where ever he goes, he can rest assured that it will be a peice of cake compared to where he's comes from, at AC we don't ask much of the pilots except to be conversant with the AIP, CAR's, FOM, and the AOM of your type. After working at BFL, that should be no problem.

Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
just wasted another hour of my time watching this over-dramatized reality bullshit. i'd rather put hot pins in my eyes then watch these piston pounders put on another "oh my god" moment. Makes the industry look bad.
Can we get a forum where...
fixed
