Expired IR and pilot procedures.
Could someone please provide insight to the amended IFR rules?
If your IR has expired, does one have to perform the check ride again, or does one have to re-write the Instrument exam again with a check ride?
If your expiry date comes around and you don't have the total 6, 6, and 6, what's procedures must a pilot complete?

Re: Expired IR and pilot procedures.
If your rating expired less than two years ago, you only have to do the ride. However, you always have to do the ride, but there's no requirement to do any prep for it. If your rating expired more than four years ago, you have to redo both the ride and the written exam. The 6-6-6 requirement is only if you want to act as PIC, so you can go dual to get current again, which is a requirement even if your rating hasn't expired.

Have a look at CAR 421.49

Re: Expired IR and pilot procedures.
so if you group 3 expired in 2006,, to renew it, all you would have to do is a ride? not the inrat?
My dad hasnt done a ride since 2004, so will he have to do the exam again? if so, I think hes cooked as hes 70.

Sorry, if your ride was more than four years ago, and your rating expired more than two years ago, you have to re-write the INRAT.

Re: Expired IR and pilot procedures.
"Triple Six" must be complied with if you excersize the privileges of the Instrument Rating ..... PIC or SIC has nothing to do with it.
Anything that requires an instrument Rating means it must be a valid rating, either by recent demonstration vi a flight test, or by recency of experience .... no "Triple 6"
no rating.....

+1 to what OFD said. I'll post a link when I have the time to dig it up. Pretty sure it doesnt specify PIC/SIC, only if you are using the IR you must be current. The Old Fogducker wrote:"Triple Six" must be complied with if you excersize the privileges of the Instrument Rating ..... Here's the info from the CARs -- as has been mentioned, it only talks about "exercising the privilleges".BTD wrote:+1 to what OFD said. I'll post a link when I have the time to dig it up. Re: Expired IR and pilot procedures.
What if you wrote your INRAT and more than a year passed between that and a flight test? Does the INRAT need to be re-written?
Re: Expired IR and pilot procedures.
Once you write the INRAT you have two years to complete the ride. If it's been more than a year you are still OK as long as it isn't more than two years.PostmasterGeneral wrote:What if you wrote your INRAT and more than a year passed between that and a flight test? Thanks Aeros! I wrote my INRAT on Nov 23, 2008. So, I have until Nov 23, 2010 to complete my checkride then, correct?
Thanks for posting that.

Re: Expired IR and pilot procedures.
Correct; however I'd try to avoid letting it go til the last minute, the last thing you need is to be under a time deadline and then have the weather crap out on you. It tends to add a wee bit of extra stress onto an already stressful situation.PostmasterGeneral wrote:Thanks Aeros! I wrote my INRAT on Nov 23, 2008.
