Re: SATA A310 - Picture wow
Ouch. They come in to YHM on occasion with that plane. Seen some ugly landings but none like that.
Re: SATA A310 - Picture wow
I don't think its during landing, looks more like a high speed turn.jetboy1975 wrote:Ouch. They come in to YHM on occasion with that plane. Seen some ugly landings but none like that.

Must have been an ex-bush pilot. They're merely step taxiing on wheels. Nothing to see here gents...move along.RVR6000 wrote:I don't think its during landing, looks more like a high speed turn.jetboy1975 wrote:Ouch. They come in to YHM on occasion with that plane. Is it just me, or does it look like the FO is bracing himself against his windscreen. The white thingy kinda looks like an arm. Wow...

Good eye! The A310 has a handle right where the FO's hand appears to be... must have been the skipper's landing.WHIPPER wrote:Is it just me, or does it look like the FO is bracing himself against his windscreen. The white thingy kinda looks like an arm. Wow...
Re: SATA A310 - Picture wow
Nah... I think it's a "look Mommy !! No Hands !" moment caught by the photographer.WHIPPER wrote:Is it just me, or does it look like the FO is bracing himself against his windscreen. The white thingy kinda looks like an arm. Wow...

Re: SATA A310 - Picture wow
Definitely a landing. That airport in the Azores is known for the high crosswinds on the approach. Do a search on airliners.net to see some other pics albeit not quite as graphic (!).RVR6000 wrote:I don't think its during landing, looks more like a high speed turn.jetboy1975 wrote:Ouch. He is clearly trying to make the highspeed

These cost saving measures are getting out of hand. Only using one (set of) tires....Hmph!
That wingtip looks like it's less than a foot from the ground. Had a landing in YYZ in B767 with nasty storm system over the lakes that might've looked like this had it not been for the fact that it was just after sunset.

Turn right/left heading XXX, vectors for the hell of it.

Maybe less then full flap would've been appropriate in those conditions?

Or, even better, an alternate airport?

Found a couple of videos too.

Keep in mind that most aircraft of this size are actually designed to land in a crosswind.

Here you can get all the info from the photographer:

"Hello everyone
I've decided to create this topic, after I saw some rather unpleasant comments outside airliners, to my recent picture! I'm talking about this one:
http://www.airliners.net/photo/SATA-... ... 1615692/L/
Well, let me start by saying that I was the lucky guy who was able to caught this with my camera!! I wasn't even going to photograph this one, but I went to the runway thinking that it was a Falcon 50... Also, I was quite lucky with the weather, that seamed to open when the aircraft was landing!
Now, to the technical stuff.... Some of you have been saying that this one was "photoshoped"... Well, the only thing that occurred to me when I saw that was "Wow...Jealous guys near..."
This was taken at F9, 1/500" and 400mm! The only photoshop it toke was to correct the horizon and to correct the colors, sharpening and nothing else...
I cannot explain how we can't see the surface controls in action, but I really think that it was because they where caught by surprise..."

I wonder how many pairs of underwear needed changing after that flight.

"He is clearly trying to make the highspeed"
Wouldn't the opposite wing be down if he/she was making a RH highspeed?

Re: SATA A310 - Picture wow
can you elaborate and explain what make them so special in a Xwind ?Keep in mind that most aircraft of this size are actually designed to land in a crosswind

Re: SATA A310 - Picture wow
The landing gear is desinged to withstand a huge amount of torsion in case the aircraft lands in a crabbed configuration. Have you not seen the videos of the Boeing crosswind landings and the corsswind landing tests at Keflavik on the A380?scopiton wrote:can you elaborate and explain what make them so special in a Xwind ?Keep in mind that most aircraft of this size are actually designed to land in a crosswind

Re: SATA A310 - Picture wow
ok, it makes more sense when you formulate it like that but they're just performing ldg gear torsion resistance test, which is not the same purpose, by definition.
anyway, nice links.
