Status C-GEAJ crashed Antarctica jan.2009?

Basler BT-67 C-GEAJ(26120) crashed in Antarctica on 5th January 2009. Since then there has been little or no information as regards its current disposition.
Was it damaged beyond repair, stripped for spares, or simply abandoned and are there any photographs of the crash site?

It's undergoing salvage as we speak - supposed to be flown off the Ice sometime in the next couple of weeks.

The Buffalo crew from Yellowknife is doing it as no one else has the expertise, haveing done it numerous times themselves they are very good at it.

pretty sure it ain't Buffalo - although Buffalo does help us out quite a bit for parts and so forth.

Longjon et All, MFA is quite correct it is not the folks from Buffalo. It is Kenn Borek that is recovering the plane. I doubt Buffalo has even worked on a Basler before as all theirs are standard 3's from my understanding. And yes as MFA says we do get parts from them, but for this one, most of the parts came directly from Basler.

On a side note, Borek is the largest commercial operator of Basler's at the moment with a total of 5 (6 - Including EAJ) and all of them are in the antarctic at this very moment.

So as to the status. It is out of the hole, and ready to fly having been signed off 2 days ago, we are just waiting for the ferry permit from TC. Our guys went in on the 21st of November, replaced both engines / props, and gear assemblies / skis. Patched the skins / flaps and holes in the undersides of the wings / fuselage. And now she's ready to come back to Calgary where Borek will be doing the overhaul and repair.

It was a sight to see it spin it's first prop in over 9 months, and even more satisfying for the guys up there who had been digging non-stop for 8 days to get it out.

No.. This was the crash of MKB Borek's first Basler. It happened 2 years ago..

C-GEAJ was operated by Enterprise Airlines out of Muskoka, and they crashed it, but Kenn Borek is recovering it. KBA is also operating C-GEAI which was operated by Enterprise last year.

Enterprise didn't have the man power or experience to recover the aircraft.

And to correct my earlier comments about Buffalo, they have had experience with a Turbo DC3 from South Africa, but it is not the Same as the Basler. The South African machine is not currently approved in Canada to my knowledge.

As a follow up to the recovery effort.. C-GEAJ has arrived safely in Calgary at Kenn Borek's Hangar.. The trip was made in a little over 4 days.

Kudo's to all our engineers, and support staff, made this a recovery for the records.. Ice Pilots hasn't got anything on us.... Hehe....

Now where will ownership of C-GEAJ en up with, wouldn't be surprised if Enterprise AL had it written off and Ken Borek
bought it from the insurance company...

Perhaps more to the point: does Enterprise Airlines (renamed -afaik- Antarctic Logistics Centre International (ALCI) Aviation) of Oshawa,Ontario still exist?

Just a guess but i think perhaps that ALCI contracts the flying to different companies such as Kenn Borek the same way that Kelowna Flightcraft contracts their 727s and Convair to Purolator. There is an update message about the status of C-GEAJ on the ALCI web page:
