Mach 1, Admitedly, I'm a little over-tired, but I'm sorry, you've gone too cryptic on me, and I must have left today's authentication chart back at the Briefing Room.
What was I supposed to gain from those movie excerpts?
Please resend the msg in plain language.

Edit ... As I was browsing one of the Canadian Broadcasting forums that I check out each day ... like AvCanada, I noted a few threads you may find interesting ... complaints about "fact checking" with respect to catching errors at one of Vancouver's most highly rated stations for news and information.

1. Just a direction that Fox seems to be headed, albeit a slight exaggeration.
2. Entertainment value.
3. Still seeing if you will let anyone have the last word.

Yeah, well... my Dad's nearly 80 so that would just be wrong. Don't get me wrong, he's a tough old so and so, but... that would just be so wrong.

Re: Another quality FoxNews moment
I guess the subtle sarcasm was lost on you...it might not translate well in print. Olbermann is not my hero, in fact I was stating that O'Reilly is at least as fair and balanced as Olbermann is. Given my extremely low opinion of O'Reilly (who you seem to admire so much) I don't think anybody but you could interpret that as a compliment to Keith. The Old Fogducker wrote:In a witty retort ... "I think you're screwed up Rockie."
So what's wrong with this youtube video Rockie? Where does he lose his temper? All he does is point out how stupid Obama supporters are, and their socialist ideals, centred around "Make the rich pay" is plainly ... stupid.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17UfCP78 ... re=related
And then you post something with Saturday Night Live's Al Franken as a political analyst? Get a brain transplant Rockie!
Here's your well balanced hero Keith Olbermann at work ..

Here's some educational material on MSNBC on Keith Olbermann's Countdown To No Ratings ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZK_0vmoIPI

Rockie:
The aroma and flavour of your posts just left me with the impression you'd be a "Keith Overbite ... Countdown to No Ratings" fan. Regarding "losing it" on-air .. trust me, every broadcaster has "lost it" once or many more times than once in their career .... myself included, although I'm certain you'd never suspect that of me back in the day when I'd be speaking to a hundred thousand people.
Even the very well liked, mild mannered Casey Kasem of "American Top Forty" fame for example ... here's a recording of him "losing it" .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDYK2H0l ... PL&index=7
So you attributing anything to the so-called "outburst" by O'Reilly can be accounted only for the pressure of being on-air in front of several hundred thousand viewers, the techs screwing up, and leaving you hanging out to dry.
Mach 1, see, I told ya.

Him losing it off air at a tech is just one example. He has a habit of losing patience, berating and insulting most of the guests who don't agree with him. It's unprofessional even from an opinionated hack like him. Some people like it, others watch just to see what kind of an ass he'll make of himself. He rarely disappoints.

Re: Another quality FoxNews moment
Berates? Show me a youtube example Rockie of what you consider berating ... I'm not certain we would share the same definition when it comes to the broadcast medium ... and since I doubt you were ever in the business, I must question your qualification to make an assessment as to his professional conduct ... if you expect him to behave like some stoned out NPR announcer, you are possibly correct.
I look for him to "call a spade a spade" as the expression goes when he catches somebody lying, or being weasely.
You likely think this interview is a prime example of your position .... I think he behaved admirably, and it makes me wish I were still in the business so I could conduct the same type of interview.
If he offends you, no doubt I find Olbermann, Maher, Stewart, Williams, Maddow, etc to be lying stunned clowns who failed as comedians and have taken up the position of being political commentators to a bunch of equally funny clownish viewers.

Guys I don't want to break up the 3 way love fest....but if you want accurate FACT checked news you need to get it from a good newspaper. You can't get anything but garbage from the TV or from the internet, and if you do happen to run onto something accurate you will never know you can trust it. Try reading a real world class newspaper every day ( Wall ST Journal or New York Times, one slightly right, one slightly left). I'm sure there must be others, though not in the USA. Really...try reading.

OK ... so I'll lay off 'yer old man.
How about you and me out behind the hangar after the New Year's Eve Party? Be sure to bring your own bicycle chain, 'cause I won't loan you mine ..LOL
Stinson ... thanks for joining the discussion. I have a look at the on-line version of the Wall St Journal from time to time, but I find the NY Slimes to be a real Democratic Party hack haven.
Good to see you join in on the "Why The USA Sucks" thread too. A small but vocal group of Canadians just hate to see an American tell them "we" are just like "them." "They" feel they are morally superior ... when asked why, the little piss-ants will reply with some BS like ..... "because we never killed anyone by dropping an atomic bomb." Then I love to tell them, "you are somewhat correct ... we only supplied the uranium mined by Eldorado Mines and a lot of the scientists so we could burn up a lot of Japanese that were killing Allied troops in the Pacific and millions of civilians."
That will illicit another ... "yeah well, we never invaded Viet Nam." To which I'd reply ...."well, sort of right ... we just manufactured almost all of the napalm that was dropped on those poor Viet Cong that were killing young Americans and Vietnamese villagers" .... and on and on it goes ...

Re: Another quality FoxNews moment
O'Reilly is an unimaginative, unintelligent button pusher for ratings. A bigoted pig who sees the world as O'Reillyland and anyone who disagrees with him is worthy of nothing but his contempt. This interview is a classic example. There is still something called due process which is what separates a civilized society from the people who committed the 9/11 acts. As repulsive as it may be to actually defend these people in a trial, a guilty verdict in a fair hearing is far more effective than the summary lynching O'Reilly would favour. It is what separates us from them. The Old Fogducker wrote:If he offends you, no doubt I find Olbermann, Maher, Stewart, Williams, Maddow, etc to be lying stunned clowns who failed as comedians and have taken up the position of being political commentators to a bunch of equally funny clownish viewers.

Re: Another quality FoxNews moment
For eight of the last nine years the United States has been led by right wingnuts who severely damaged a once great country. International treaties and agreements meant nothing to them. International law meant nothing to them. Even American domestic law meant nothing to them. They fabricated intelligence and invoked the horrors of 9/11 to justify invading a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 and constituted no threat to the United States. We will probably never know exactly why, but following the money makes it pretty easy to see who benefitted.
Torture became official US government policy. Rendition became official US government policy. Spying on US citizens in direct contravention of the law became official US government policy. To them any means justified the end in fulfilling their agenda and they are unapologetic about it to this day.
The rest of the democratic world cannot and does not trust the right wing in the US to uphold values and ethics that America used to stand for and used to be sacrosanct. Real fear rippled through the world when the right was holding up Sarah Palin as their choice for leadership.
O'Reilly, Limbaugh and Coulter etc. are the only mouthpieces for the right now (not including Cheney who can't seem to see when he's outlasted his welcome), and it is obvious the right hasn't learned to moderate themselves. By themselves and away from their pulpit they are nothing more than bigoted, loud, angry white people whose only debating tools are intimidation and belittlement.
The scary part for the rest of the world is the influence they wield over the large number of Americans who still think like them.

Correct on the identification of almost all source points Rockie, except 180 degrees out of phase in their cause and effect.
I see absolutely zero wrong with the conduct of the previous administration in all of your talking points. In my opinion, (which of course always drives you wild,) Bush and Cheney should be given a ticker-tape parade in downtown New York which would rival those parades given to the NY Yankees when they win the World Series, or when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon. A medal should be struck in their honor for preventing additional terrorist attacks....something which seems to escape the people currently minding the store.... and there will be plenty more to come as long as they pursue their current course of action and attitude.
My only regret is that I wasn't young enough to be in the field placing hot lead on target, and am envious of those who have volunteered to go to the battlefield and fight terror in its back yard instead of waiting for them to come to our back yard. That's why I have great respect for what Nark has done.... and for those who don't like it ... too freakin' bad.
"Torture" as it has now been described by a redefinition applied by the left, saved the lives of countless citizens by learning of plans for a similar 9-11 attack on Los Angeles under the direction of the beloved KSM. Further, it led to the discovery of the structure of Al Qaeda and the capture of many more terrorists who were given a better life at "Vacation Club Gitmo" than they were enjoying at home (tongue in cheek comment) ... or as you may choose to call them "freedom fighters" who are only reacting to an abusive government in the same way as the Founding Fathers of the US reacted to the policies of King George.
Iraq was a far better battleground upon which fight Al Qaeda and their supporters than the terrain of Afghanistan. Easier to supply, and a population more likely t be co-operative. Radical Islamists supported by Iran came flowing into Iraq like migrating Salmon, and were killed in the streets like rabid dogs in the process, severely limiting the capabilities of Al Qaeda. As a double bonus, we took out a despot and gave 25 million people a chance at living a life free of his influence. Another bonus, we have more secure oil to burn.
Spying on citizens was only done based upon their use of certain key words picked up by a computer program which intercepted words such as bomb, attack, etc ... and only something like 75 persons were "wire tapped" ... so big friggin' deal in my opinion. This was in response to the greatest loss of life due to enemy attack in the history of the United States ... our generation's Pearl Harbour. The smoke pouring out of the WTC signifies the same thing as smoke pouring out of the USS Arizona to me. That the Japanese wore uniforms made it easier for us to identify them and was a nicety compared to Al Qaeda wearing civilian clothes when they launch their attacks ... the same way the VC did.
I'm just starting to read Sarah Palin's book, and find her quite interesting ... a nice "girl next door makes good sort of story" which I find far more legitimate than "Bozobama" never having a real job in his life except for being a community organizer .. which to me is synonymous with being little more than a stirrer of excrement street thug who teaches people to demonstrate in the streets and throw rocks at cops, rather than someone who actually produced something, or employed people to do real work and have pride in the production of that product.

How would you respond to a criticism that wanting to go kill people is immoral? I concede its a romantic notion of many a boy, but it would seem to be understood that its a misguided ambition.
Why not turn the other cheek or do onto others?

I would reply the same way a woman in Texas explained to a judge .. "Sir, he was a man that just needed killin'"
You are encouraged to look up the video taped beheadings of Daniel Pearl and Nick Berg ... oh, but they were Jews, .... and Christians would be treated so much better, I'm sure.

Who would think a pair of Christians would be treated better then these two Jewish fellers?
OFD responds,
"I would reply the same way a woman in Texas explained to a judge .. "Sir, he was a man that just needed killin" "
Hahaha, isn't that a bit barbaric though, perhaps immature or maybe just ignorant?
Now I'm thinking ... I'm at a loss with regards to why the above excuse is any more justifiable then the reasons for the beheading in the video you recommended.

X Wind, knowing what we know now ... if you had the opportunity to shoot Adolf Hitler between the eyes with a 45 caliber Colt 1911, in 1938, would your sense of values allow you to pull the trigger, and save roughly 20 million people?
How about if we changed the name to Joseph Stalin? Perhaps Chairman Mao?
Where would you stand on those people?
