Re: Why the USA sucks
Foggy I've run into the same thing re 9/11, "They deserved it." Thirty Canadians died in the towers, and those despicable pricks think their epitaph should read "They deserved it.."
Re: Why the USA sucks
I think any Canadian who thinks they hate Americans are more than likely unaware of history's WW1 & WW2, Cold War and the domino effect it had leading up to today's global reality.
Simply put, Americans are our brother-ens. We share common Christian values with them as both countries like to choose good over evil. I fly and overlay in the States all the time. I meet dumb Americans, smart ones, normal ones and crazy ones just as I would in Canada. I truly believe Americans are good people who like to do the right thing. They are friendly enough to me when I am there as I am towards them.
Sometime geo-politics can distort our image of good vs. evil, but in the end, it is the Americans who are good. The fact that we are even able to criticize such a world power like the US without fear, just goes to show how civilized they truly are.
Small affairs like Lumber disputes, or free trade are not worthy arguments to dismiss a world power's set of values. We should be very thankful for the society that we live in. Our Canadian veterans along side our closest allies (USA), helped to defeat the ternary and evil that bestowed us 50 years ago. We could have easily lived in a much different society where I can guarantee you, you would not be as fortunate to share these public opinions.

I just revisited this thread, and noticed your post about Captain X's tag line "The defense department regrets to inform you that your sons are dead because they were stupid."
A few weeks ago, Guido called me "a piece of human garbage" because I criticized his friend for going on a two week trip to visit Palestinians and plant wheat together as "a show of solidarity" with their cause, because I said it was a classic do-gooder "symbolism over substance act" which made no difference what-so-ever to the situation.
Well, that was such a catchy little saying I think I'll dredge it up now to describe anyone who would choose to use such an inflammatory tag line ... So, Captain X, "you are a piece of human garbage."
There, that feels better now.
Synthpro and Hawker ... when I tuned up that underachieving little jerk in Toronto, one of my points in my non-stop verbal barrage was to indicate he must get his "single-source news" from the local underground newspaper, and have a memory incapable of retaining events greater than 90 days.
I still recall the wide-eyed, open-mouthed, slack-jawed "well, I never!" astonished look on his face as I was dressing him down in his own abode in front of his smirking friends before getting up and leaving, telling him I was too disgusted to remain in his presence. Most assuredly, I was one of the few people in his life to ever take him on, and expose his BS for exactly what is was. It was one of my better tirades ... and that's saying something.

Captain X,
I am really sick and tired of blowhards like you. If flying on an airline bugs you so much why don't hop in a plane and fly yourself?

OFD I am getting very tired of the people who hate Americans and the only reason I can think of for them being that way is ignorance of what America really is.
Then again you and I have probably lived a lot longer than most of the American bashers and can relate to reality based on having seen all the good America has done for the rest of the world.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Another reason to fear them and stop relying on them so much. What is going on with their debt? It's spiraling out of control, it's a runaway train into hell's canyon. Police brutality, squashing protests, all civil liberties given exception with the introduction of the Patriot Act... this is democracy? Oh yeah, a model for the world. How about that compassionate healthcare system? and of course the powerful corporate lobby is in everyone's interest isn't it?
I think America started out great and had very good intentions but has slowly been corrupted by greed and corporate interests. But nevermind, everyone seems content cuddling up with their tunnelvision each night to have Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck tell them what's happening in the world.
Again, I'm not trying to bash Americans and granted that Canada isn't a whole lot different but the whole thing is outta control. I'm not trying to be pro-Muslim either, I'm equally afraid of the Islamic state but that's a whole other issue.

Ok everyone who has taken this post way too far.... it was all about the new flying rules.....
In retrospect the title should have been Why flying to the USA sucks
The funny part is i haven't even had to fly to the USA I was merely trying to sympathize with everyone having to put up with this B/S. But thanks to certain avacanada'ers this took a whole new turn. On a side note thanks for all the personal attacks.... everyone take a deep breath and chill out.....

Re: Why the USA sucks
You broadly insulted a nation, which by the way has given more in foreign aid than any other nation, and you cowardly wave the white flag when people stand in her defense. Perhaps I should start a thread on why Canada sucks, because of pacifist's like you...

I was simply adding to the context of the post. If you want me to write an intelligent response, perhaps the you or the originator should write something intelligent to respond too.

The good Captain sent me a PM attempting to explain himself and suggesting that I "chill out."
My only regret for anything I've printed here is that I didn't get the opportunity to tell him all that, and a great deal more in person rather than via the keyboard.

Perhaps all the anti-American sentiment, domestic and otherwise, stems from their grossly unpopular foreign policy. Unprovoked wars notwithstanding, they've basically enslaved places like Central America through a never ending process of debt repayment from which they can never escape.

Re: Why the USA sucks
Well I gotta just chime in here. Suppose you did a poll of random people from all over the world, and random people from all over the US and you said...HEY what country reminds you the most of America? What country has similar government, similar values, similar people, similar problems, many of the same ideas and much the same heritage, good and bad. And what if you had to pick a country that also drives on the same side of the road? Well....that only leaves Canada. I don't want to shock you guys or anything, but if ever there were two peas in a pod, it's you all and US. We have good people and bad. We have had horrible leaders and so have you. We've had warmongers and quislings as leaders and so have you. BUt if you ask 1000 muslim extremists whether your system is any more noble than ours, I doubt very much that they care. When Al Quida is done with us, they want you gone too. And Australia, and Great Britain. This is a puzzling new fight. We are all bound to get it wrong some along the way. BUt I promise you this, the USA is not going to lose this fight. Puzzled or not, we'll be around when its over.

Nope, though I'm not surprised that someone on here would try to twist a simple question into a statement of support for terrorismSpokes wrote:Thats right, all those people on the plane deserved to die, simply because they are not muslim. It certainly is not because the great evil George Bush is president. Maybe its because all those Americans had the nerve to be born and actually enjoy life. How dare they not become muslim. Maybe because when ever there is a disaster in the world, in any country, the Americans are there with help. Whenever you see food aid being passed out the bag always seems to say USA, maybe thats it. Maybe it was because not enough infidels died on 9-11. Maybe it was because the Americans finaly haulled europes ass out of the sling it was in in the 40's and put an end to the Nazi horror.Guido wrote:Let's take that back a step further... ever consider why the terrorists seem to hate America so much? The USA does not suck, and the people in that plane did nothing to deserve to die. Its just lucky that Al Quiada picked an incompetant boob to do there dirty work.

Militant Islam is more of a reaction to military imperialism than anything else, I would think. When you have one country's government sticking its nose into everyone else's business some people are bound to get pissy (whether the country doing the meddling is being "helpful" or not). I'm sure you remember that Bin Laden said that the attacks in 2001 were a result of American troops being stationed in Saudi Arabia, right? It had nothing to do with making everyone Muslim or any of the other responses you suggested...

There's no denying that the American government has done its share of good and bad in the world - it's abhorrent that innocent people end up being caught in the crossfire on both sides (i.e. American / Iraqi / Afghani / Vietnamese / Somali / Korean civilians).

There are several western countries that have been targetted by attacks from Al Quaida besides the USA. I doubt it is American Imperialism that really is the cause. It is rilgeous fanatisism plain and simple.
So Bin Laden doesn't like the fact his home country has agreed to host some American troops. That's a good reason to kill 3000 people? Come on. He just doesn't like any non-believers and thinks ok to kill them. I'm sure he'd slot both you and me if he had the chance.

Re: Why the USA sucks
I wouldn't say it isn't religious fanaticism - but I think it's religious fanaticism being used for political ends, as opposed to the other way around. Bin Laden's idea of religion just gives him a tool and an excuse in order to perpetrate attacks which are of a political nature. It's no different than George Bush or Stephen Harper using their "Christian" credentials (siding with anti-abortionists, those who want to teach "creationism" in schools as science) in order to sway voters to their camps - I remember talking with some folks in California after the election in early 2001 - they told me outright that the only reason they voted for Bush was because he was the only "true Christian" running for the presidency... unbelievable. It would seem to me that Bin Laden is merely using his ideals which happen to line up with what certain violent factions within Islam think is God's will in order to recruit people into Al Qaeda.Spokes wrote:Yup, your right. More carefully phrased - I think it is not solely religious fantacism, but rather political ends being served by religious fanatics instead of religion influencing politics.

Guido,
I could care less how you rationalize what terrorists do. Maybe you drag out a Oui Jee board and channel Neville Chaimberlain for all I know. They are pond sucking scum who would kill you in a heartbeat. If you are a pilot you would realize how much their pathetic crap has changed the face of aviation in the last 10 years. It has only done so because there seems to be a lot of knee jerk politicaly correct goofs who would rather crap all over the general public than actually do something about the misguided maggots that influence politics and public safety.
