WESTJET IS HIRING!
A friend of mine starts ground school on April 4th. So much for waiting until the fall. This is great news!!! I wonder if ex jetsgo pilots will get a chance to get in.

HOPE NOT. NO JETSGO scabs there.
I don't think Westjet offers the "screw all the other pilots if you got the cash to pay for your training" incentive.

Are you happy with your wage, or the new guy who paid for his PPC to get a job in your company possibly undrcutting you and your position. Likely not. I have a hard time with people trying to weasle their way into the industry because they have more money than the average "busting my ass to make ends meet" pilot. So, to see a whole company of them, I want nothing to do with them. Their mentality is the reason for a lot of the woes in this industry today. I do feel bad that they are now umemployed and not doing what they wanted to do all their lives, but we need to stop this kind of attitude from employers thinking they can force you to pay for your training.
What's your take nepotism (you get a job because you're uncle/dad works for the company)???
Isn't that just as unfair as the guy who who has access to an extra $30K to get a job?
What about the guy with rich parents, who can fund all the extra flying time and road-trips without him lifting a finger, whereas there are guys out there who can't afford to do those kinds of things.
My point is that there are so many pre-existing inequalities in this industry that don't make fo a level playing field that it's not fair to single out the guys who borrow $30K to get a job.
Even without bought PPCs, there is no level playing field in this silly industry when it comes to jobs.
Accept it.
You want to help pilots and put an end to all the BS in this industry? Regulate the Supply. It's that simple.

I agree. There is not, nor will there ever be a level playing field. I agree with your last comment there 100%. Regulating as the dentist and chiropractic schools do would be helpful in our quest for that better job. It will never happen though. Would you actually want the government to have a little bit more power in our industry? Giving them power to regulate the inflow of students may be just as bad as having someone undercut you with a PPC they paid for themselves.
Governments regulate safety. That's their job.
Regulating the Industry would be something pilots would have to do on their own... form a self-governing association that controls entrance.
But the Industry and all those who benefit from the mass over supply of pilots on the market would fight you all the way on this.
Think about it, if you own an aviation company, you're not going to be able to get away with half the BS you presently can if you can't easily replace your pilots.
How else do you think these companies get away with paying their pilots McDonald's wages? Or get guys to do slave labor on the Ramp for 2 to 3 years?
