Enhanced Flight Vision System; anyone operating with one?

Hi there,

Any Canadian operators out there have enhanced flight vision system (HUD and EVS combined)? If so did it allow you lower than normal landing, take-off, and now taxi limits?

We have it...it has not reduced any of our limits because it is not implemented into our operation yet (not op spec or specific lower vis training yet)
I don't foresee us getting the lower limits either...we rarely end up operating in low vis so it seems that it is not worth it

We do operate in a low vis environment a lot. We are on the east coast. I was just wondering if having it does allow us to apply for an Ops Spec for lower vis limits. We are private, so if we can get less than 1200RVR for take-off and landing would be icing on the cake.

What kind of aircraft? You can get an ops spec for RVR 600. Would help at a couple airports in Canada.

rvr600 takeoffs can be done without the use of EFVS as long as you have the proper ops spec
Some airplanes are approved for HUD3 landings (which are like CAT3, zero vis) but you would need to apply for an ops spec and I don't know if it can be done in Canada...like I said, we don't typically need such low limits...

EVS works well when the atmospheric particles, (obscuring phenomena) are far apart, ie; haze or light fog. When the density of the cloud/fog or whatever gets too thick, the EVS cannot 'see' through. Also there has to be a decent temperature difference to help the IR sensor differentiate better.
Stick with a 600 RVR Ops Spec, it's way cheaper...
