Doc why don't you think it will happen in Nakina? In case you didn't know up until 5 years ago low time pilots were not hired as ramp or dock hands in Nakina...I am sure it could go back that way if that is what low timers want...it seems you just like beating a dead horse with this no pilot shall work the ground thing. But then I don't have the experience as you so maybe I should keep my mouth shut, I have been taught to respect my elders and listen to them because they are always right...and we should not question there wisdom...
Everyone who is or works the ground right now should take a moment and PM Doc all their questions about aviation because he has all the right answers and know how everything in this whole aviation roll should be done...

Hey tree....a little touchy arent we? Just five short years ago? You dont say? And you think it'll change? And if you respect your elders because you think, that they think, they know everything, then you are a complete moron, who knows nothing. Methinks it's time to share your wisdom rather than take petty shots at other's opinions? Because, ya know what? It WONT happen at Nakina! So when you're all finished spouting off, go back to kissing ass on the dock. And maybe, just maybe after kissing the right asses, even you can find yourself in the right seat of a 12!
Doc, Normally I respect what you have to say. You seem to have quite a bit of experience up north so I'm always suprised to see you talking down about this company. I've heard good things about NAS and their guys (and gal). Doesn't your company have pilots paying for PPC's? I'd say something about rocks and glass houses or glass and rock houses but I'm a pseudo-idiot and it would show. As for Meatservo (funny handle btw) you've lost all credibility with your thread about how pilots who read in flight should go to jail and your bickering here. Also, I've noticed no one mentioning Nakina's twin otter which I think also has a right seat for the low-timers. Not to mention that it's pretty badass.
Well Rudy, I looked over my posts, and I cant see where I said NAS was a bad place. Quite the opposite is true. I just think we should hire pilots to fly, and perhaps student pilots, or at best Privat pilots for dock/ramp work. Or local teenagers. Having a guy show up with ten hours of float time, a new CPL, which set him back many thousands of dollars should be hired as a pilot. And never did I say NAS was alone in this practice. I just dont agree with it.
As for my comments to "tree", I was just tossing it back at him.
As for my company selling PPC'S. You'll recall my displeasure with that situation. Not much I can do about it however. It is a little like comparing apples and grapes though.

Well "Doc" thanks for the encouragement...I am sure I am kissing the right ass as you put it and will succeed in my aviation career...I am very confident in the decisions I have made so far and am happy in the position I am in...I am glad you cleared up some facts with Rudy...Especially since I believe that you once sent a resume to Nakina back in the days when you were looking for work...Well I will sign off now and let you give out your opinions...just remember opinions are personal and you should encourage them...even if they are not the same as yours...especially when you are addressing people who are starting out in the aviation world.

So the low-timers want to work the dock instead of fly? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It didn't get that way because that's what the pilots wanted. It's because it's cheap labour for the company because they know low-timers put up with shit for a shot at flying. Wake up man. It may be a decent job and you may like it, but they didn't give it to you to do you a favour.Tree wrote:Doc why don't you think it will happen in Nakina? I worked for Nakina before the days of pilots on the ramp. The local guys who worked there (although they were a good bunch of guys) were much less dependable, constant complainers and fairly negative. At least now they have workers who are motivated to do a good job.
I went there after slaving as a flight instructor in S.ON. for a thousand hours (my bartending job paid my bills because instructing sure could not). Would I have gone there (instead of instructing) with 300-400 hrs to work on the ramp for a year or so??? ABSOLUTELY!!!

Northern Skies,
I was up at Nakina 4 days ago.. Road is fine, but some hairy corners with BIG dips in the road (Almost got my Civic airborne..oops) but make sure you gas up before you go. about 1 hour each way, with NOTHING in between Geraldtine and Nakina.. there is a gas station when you come into Nakina.
CP there is a friendly guy. Came off the ramp to meet me. ASked me 2 questions:
1) If I dropped you off on a lake right now, would you survive?
2) What is the farthest north you've lived.

Twizzler, sure glad I didn't waste my money as one of your students. It's attitudes like yours that give instructing a bad name. Guys who are just passing gas and building time. You'd rather have worked on a dock/ramp than instructed??? How do you think you got that first job (after instructing) without being a slave on a dock????? You had time in your log from INSTRUCTING! DUH! But if you think a summer on a dock is better than actually FLYING, then you just aren't very bright!
I know all the low time pilots I talk to really would rather spend time on a dock/ramp than fly. Yah, right!

Hey Doc
How the #$!@ do you know what kind of attitude I have?? I was very good at instructing. The students I trained always got the best instruction.
The shyte that I hated was:
1. waiting around all day for nothing to happen and not getting paid for it! Then having to go work another fulltime job until 2am so you have money for rent.
2. Convincing someone that it is OK to pay $150 per hour for a license that they may never attain or will never use.
That being said I would have never got my first 1000 hrs required to fly at Nakina if it wasn't for instructing.
Are ther other flying jobs better than waiting around on the dock, certainly, however there is nothing wrong with chucking bags for a year if it leads to flying some of the nice equipment that Nakina has. The pay is much better and the hours are much better (and you do get some flying experience). Not to mention the contacts you make working in the real world.

Good info No Conflict. That's a long drive from Montreal, did you have an interview? What for? What kind of time do you have? How were your answers to the question received? No Conflict wrote:Northern Skies,

Why is it that some people with a pilots licence in hand, think they are above doing some real work?
I would think the lowtimers on a dock asking questions, hearing stories and experiences(good and bad) might learn a thing or two as well. What's the harm or problem with these positions? I hope it is not just the lazy dude who does'nt like the idea!

Duplicate2:
Didn't have an interview with them, was on a road trip, and figured I'd make the jaunt and see what's up. Probably about 15-16 hours from MTL, but an easy drive.
I was looking for a flying job, but as per normal, it was ramp only for now (before I get flamed, I've got no problem with this..). CP Said all the guys on the ramp were waiting for right seat. I'm not sure how many are there, but I saw 3-4 rampies.
I'm sitting at around 450. Trying to break in, I geuss..
Well, I said I'd get thru the lake thing, and he said "Well, that's funny, cause I've been up here all my life and I would have problems", and to the second, I said I had lived in Earlton, and he said "that wasn't very far north."
All in all, it was standard, but at least he took the time to talk to me (especially because I just showed up). CP said they were having interviews at the end of the month.
Hope this helps.

Thank you to all who showed a genuine, intelligent interest. You guys know how to get work and will do fine. Sifting through all the crap on here to reach something useful 'aint hard; obviously very few here care about anything useful. The rest; have fun trying to get a life going...
