Mmm, quite the video....

Let's take it easy though, I'm sure we're all a bit socked at the video, but let's keep the thread civil SVP.

Agreed stl, but I certainly understand peoples frustration with this person. The guy that is hanging his own crew out to dry before the dust even settles, is the same guy that used his "charm" and "power" as the boss to convince guys to go when they shoulda waited. He is the same one that promised them things he couldnt possibly deliver and used business to get pilots to do what they sometimes shouldnt do.

This guy is a true disgrace. You stand behind your team!! Or you wont have one long.

Ill leave my rant brief. Im sure others can say it far better.

Fly safe all.

Crazy Aviator - perhaps you misunderstood FlyinCanuck because I cant imagine why else you would react this way with your comments.
Now I am not great at explanations myself, so I will try......... (because I REALLY want to believe that you wouldnt call his answer typical, selfish and arrogant)

My pax : so what makes flying so safe?
me : well, for a lot of reasons ( I choose not to go into specific reasons like the DI just completed, the wx checked, the maintenance checks through the night, the rules and regs that govern what pilots can and can not do, the planning that we do as pilots, the back up systems in the plane, the fact that we can fly and land with one engine etc.......) but just know that we are at the controls flying, and we (or I) want to get home to continue our lives with our families, just as you do. So whether or not we have freight or passengers, we will fly just as safe to get our own butts (or bacon as flyincanuck put it) home in one piece.
My pax : oh of course, I get it. Thanks for not confusing the f**k out of me with some longwinded, mechanical, regulation type TC answer!

I am sure this is what FlyinCanuck meant - in a "my perspective" sort of way. My fake conversation slightly exaggerated to make point.
My opinion... nothing wrong with keeping your answer simple to non aviation type people, who look to the crew for a sense of calm and understanding and professionalism while flying with them!

That was my take on it too... and why I asked crazy for clarification of WTF they meant.

I gave similar responses when working at an aerobatics FTU that did rides for the general public.

Ah, lost in internet-translation maybe???

Obviously I can't take credit for authoring this "idea of explanation". Years ago I heard another Capt explaining it to a very frightened pax and it worked like a charm. She thought about it (heck, I thought about it!).

How much info do you want to give someone who doesn't know the first thing about flying?

Crazy Aviator is onto something. It's not hard for you can sound like an award-winning douchebag if you're not careful on the delivery technique.

There's an updated article on Radio-Canada's site that also has some video of a press conference held today by Exact Air.

I second that. That has always been my philosophy, in a simple summary I am looking out for #1, which is me, anyone sitting behind me will be safe as long as I adhere to that principle.

I am discusted by the owner's comments !

I hope he looses the respect and loyalty of his crews.

I would like a reporter to ask this goon what kind of salary they were making and what kind of schedule they had to work with ...

Typical case of a small company owner dragging our profession in the mud!

Sorry about the late reply !
Let me qualify my words by saying that, as humans , we are to look out for the welfare of others and consider others ahead of ourselves, often. Example, 300 hr wonder, no children , no wife, jumps in the C-172 with 3 fare paying passengers and heads off into the wild blue yonder,,, Wx drops , mag running rough, miscalculated headwinds and fuel supply is low,, he s been there before and has got his butt back to mommy s dinner table for that sumptious meal , He cares only about himself and goes to the limits, cause he knows he can do it and he s been there before,,,,the Pax are a couple with a 3 yr old child ,,,they have an accident, hit a powerline,,,the pilot lives and walks away, the child is crippled for life , the mother dies and the father ends up in a mental institution. NOW, explain to me something, What do you think an unselfish, caring, humble pilot would do when he/she is clearly reaching the limits of plane and pilot ? dont ya think he/ she might put the interests and welfare of the Pax to heart and maintain higher standards and limits and turn back or land early or plan better etc etc . This saying about telling the Pax that you really DONT give a damn about them ,,your just interested in getting your sorry ass home to mommy s dinner table is stinking evil !!

Crazy Aviator - you are a little crazy.

Anyone can argue another side to something and have it sound convincing. Just plain and simple though -
"I am a live human and would prefer to remain a live human" is probably the majority and more realistic. MOST people dont get in the plane ready to do the job of the day and plan to push the limits. Its always a chain of events. A pilots who pushes and crashes probably has a history of it.... therefore the beginning of the accident chain right there.

as always, just my opinion.
