I guess in the 21st century with all of todays computer technology it would be too much to expect Air Canada to get your bag from Thunder Bay to Toronto then within 5 hours have it moved a little further down the line in Terminal 1 to connect with an Emirates flight.

One week later the bag has finally been located still in Toronto in Air Canada's possession with no tags on it and was never delivered to Emirates Airlines even though it was tagged in Thunder Bay right through the entire route. WTF Air Canada!!!!!!

Do you think that just maybe someone ripped the tags off once the screw up was discovered? Nooooooooo couldn't happen could it. Then they just have to stand there and look dumb because how can you prove it happened that way.

Call their customer service line and complain.........oh wait a minute....they don't have one.....they had to take it out ....too many complaints to handle.

You'd be surprised how easy that tag can get ripped off in transit (not intentionally, of course). The ramp is a harsh and unforgiving environment as I'm sure you know, there are plenty of places along the way that your adhesive bag tag can go missing.

My advice: include a copy of your flight itinerary inside your suitcase (or at least your contact info) to facilitate easier identification.

My favorite yet is my wife was flying on my pass's YYZ-YQT couple years back. Her suitcase was marked fragile so it never made the flight due to special handling which is fine they say it'll be on the next flight. So she waited around for the next one and nothing, they than tell her the next one.

So she leaves and goes to my in-laws which is literally in the middle of nowwhere(Mink mountain for those of you that know.) I start to call around to find out it is in which it was at that point and I am told that the courier is coming by in an hour. I told the YQT desk not to worry about as the wife had to come into town anyway and would pick it up. They said NOPE it our mistake so we'll make sure they show up. I tried to explain where they live and that we are on pass's so don't worry about it but they wouldn' have none of it.

Needless to say a $5 flight for her, and a $67 courier ride for 1 bag out into the sticks.

I understand policies but this made me shake my head.

They come off rather easy. The baggage system here in YYZ doesn't have a gentle touch.

I'd rather see some sort of system utilizing RFID technology to give passengers a permanent tag that could be recoded for each trip (if that's possible). Much easier to place the tag inside the bag where it is unlikely to get lost/shorn off.

Proper baggage tags need a good yank to pull them off. Two ends of tough paper glued together doesn't just slip off. Long gone are the elastic tag holders.

My brother in law went SJ - WG with one stop in YZ. You guessed it, no luggage at the other end. The following week he went SJ - OW and they lost his suitcase again. :?

Guy arrives at Air Canada counter for a flight from Toronto to LA, with two bags.

Tells the Air Canada person, "Hi, I'm checking in for the LA flight, and, I'd like you to send my first bag to New York,
and my second bag to Miami!!"

Air Canada person, "Sir, we can't do that??"

Well the good news is that today my bag arrived safe and sound. Only 1 week late!! In the last 4 years I have made this trip using Air Canada, WestJet, Northwest Airlines, KLM, Emirates, Qatar and Sri Lankan Airlines. Have had my bag lost twice and both times with Air Canada!! HMMMMM!!!!

Timely post, a friend of mine flying from YWG to YYJ last week had his bag lost by AC as well.

Honestly, I have had better service from AC in the last 20 years than I have from WS in the past 2! WS lost my bags when enroute to the remote arctic, have had extensive delays... so WS is NOT the supreme entity everyone makes it out to be! The bag delay for the arctic trip cost me $2000 for a 2 day wait..(not permitted to get on charter flight without my arctic gear!)

True, but since we started letting passengers tag their own bags, they don't get put on properly.

me my wife and 1 year old son flew from toronto to thunder bay on westjet. when we tried to land they could not due to weather so we were diverted to winnipeg....my son was not happy after this and the flight attendants spent lots of time to cheer him up! after landing in winnipeg we were told there was another flight from winnipeg to thunder bay leaving in 1.5 hours, first come first served...the rest of us would have to overnight!!! when we got in the terminal and got in the back of the line! i wasn't hopeful....when i got to the counter the agent smiled and said..."we've been waiting for you guys....we reserved you 2 seats on the flight!" Apparently the flight attendants had the pilot call ahead to make sure we could make the flight because we had a child! an hour later we were on the way home!! After a succesful landing in yqt we were told while taxiing to the gate that our luggage probably didn't make it on the plane...please see the counter when you can. we talked to the agent in yqt and she said our bags would be on the flight arriving at 23:00 and would be delivered in the moring. I told the girl that i work at the airport and would pick them up in the morning...she said thats great...if you pick up your bags you'll each receive a $100 travel credit!!!

sorry for the long story...but thats service!!

AC left my bag behind. They said it would arrive the following day and I could pick it up then. I told them that I would already be dead, as the next day was day one of boot camp and my Sgt would absolutely love to see me standing out on the parade square in jeans and a tee shirt. Its not good to stand out in a bad way during basic training!

Needless to say, I had a rough first day on course.

Well, I guess it was Jazz since they couldn't fit them on the '8. But it was an AC booking, hmmm, went dash 8, 757(I think) then dash 8.

Are you suggesting ac has more complaints about their service? Could that be a reflection on them? I hope you don't work in any customer service position. Fwiw I'm well over it, wj has been great for service, friendly staff (cheesy but friendly). Why accept substandard service in a competitive market?

Statistically speaking, are you referring to the 'number' of complaints or 'rate' of complaints'?

Air Canada will obviously have a higher number if they transport twice as many passengers as a given competitor. :wink:

Actually, the adhesive was designed to hold at moderate temperatures - something we in Canada only see during half the year. When its cold, they let go... some of the check in agents end up stapling them to ensure they stay on because this is a known problem.
