Time for a new WardAir?
With Jetsgo down the shitter, and everybody else fighting tooth and nail for the low fare business, maybe it's time for a new player? An all first class operation. Great food. Great (limited) service. Good wines. Hot flight attendants. Big seats. Only vacation destinations. Big fares. Small fleet. Maybe four or five airplanes. Upscale charter only? It's been a while since flying was for the priviledged few? Can someone bring it back? A niche market, to be sure...and dont even plan to expand! Or is this country too far gone? F100's with maybe sixty seats? There are always people willing to spend the bucks NOT to go Greyhound!
You might have something there. My Mom's friend was a FA for Ward and she's still hot at 60+ !

Doc ------ good idea and I would dearly love to hear Max Ward's thoughts on all of the present "goings-on". He's still sharp as a well-honed hunting knife and not adverse to "spicey" comments either. I'm really surprised that some member of the aviation reporting fraternity have not tried to get an interview with him.
We do have something like that here on the wetcoast. Not quite the standards of Wardair (I don't know who ever will be) but comfortable seats, free hot meals, free wine with dinner, in flight entertainment with complimentary headsets.
Either you're in, or you're in the way

We have that here too in AB, there called Canadian North...They serve the sun diestinations of the north.
Cheers.

Sorry duh! I forgot to put the name in there. Harmony strives to do that, but I see you are talking more like what Platinum in Calgary was planning.
And Canadian North does offer very nice service as well... good call King Air Guy. I do like Harmony destinations better

Seriously DOC you may be on to something. Maybe not to the extent of what your suggesting but a compromise...Say targeting the middle class upwards. Offer near first class seating, near first class food, Sweet eye candy at a more expensive but not outlandish price. Personally I would pay a bit more to get even Canadian north service.

Now I understand fully that it wouldn't be "politically correct" nowadays, but if anyone reading this remembers how the FA's (we called them Stewardesses or Stewardi) dressed onboard old PWA (commonly known as 'Please Wait Awhile'), then that's the uniforms I would like to see worn on said proposed airline. I think if I suggested such a thing in open public nowadays, I'd probably have every woman's organization in North America in my face real quick. To those too young to remember, you have no idea what you missed.

Really, the thing that surprises, and somewhat disappoints me is that there ever was a time we DIDN'T need another Wardair. I remember being a kid, and flying one of Max's planes to Hawaii. Even then, there was something really amazing about that big, shiney time machine. Wow! Max's grandson was the one who convinced me to become a pilot. Bastard!!
Have you heard of Cypress Air out of YVR? I seem to recall that was exactly the market they were targeting with HS748s (I think?) C580s? I don't remember anything about the routes, company, or ownership, but it seemed like a pretty good opportunity. Planes were parked in a few months.

I think ZOOM is already on this case. Nice FAs too. They keep a relatively low profile, but they are flying the the Caribbean in addition to Europe.Doc wrote:With Jetsgo down the shitter, and everybody else fighting tooth and nail for the low fare business, maybe it's time for a new player?
