keeping MIFR current
so to keep my MIFR and SIFR current its 6 approaches in 6 months right? but does that mean 6 single and 6 multi? or does multi cover both. and i also heard from someone on here that theres a min. of 6 hours IFR in six months as well? thanks for clearing this up guys.
Re: keeping MIFR current
If you keep your group 1 current, your group 3 is by default current as well, and yes it is 6 hours. You can use the sim and save some $.
If you do your 6-6-6 in a single engine, then your group 3 is current but your group 1 is not, use the sim.

Higher covers lower, lower doesn't cover higher. Do it in a multi (sim or otherwise) and you're swell.
Re: keeping MIFR current
If you renewed your group 1, but not your group 3 and lost an engine in IMC, you are now illegal because your group 3 is invalid right?

It says nothing about a group 1 covering a group 3. To exercise the privilege of an IFR rating, the holder must do the 6-6-6. It does not specify which group.(b) within the six months preceding the flight, acquired six hours of instrument time and completed six instrument approaches to the minima specified in the Canada Air Pilot in an aircraft, in actual or simulated instrument meteorological conditions, or in a Level B, C or D simulator of the same category as the aircraft or in a flight training device under the supervision of a person who holds the qualifications referred to in subsection 425.21(9) of the personnel licensing standards;

But this whole 6-6-6 only kicks in after 12 months correct? If I did my flight test today, I would not have to worry about it until next year?
Re: keeping MIFR current
Correct. After 12 months, then you will have had to complete 6-6-6 to fly IFR.

Re: keeping MIFR current
Probably should mention that the 1st day after the first 12 months are past you will be expired unless you were had done the 6-6-6 (covered above). This means that you should probably think about doing 6 hours and 6 approaches a couple of months before the first year is up if you are planning to use it after a year.
Sorry if that came across as confusing but I couldn't think of a better way to phrase it lol

Re: keeping MIFR current
i.e. don't wait till the 12 months are up otherwise you'll already be expired.
Re: keeping MIFR current
So if you go 12months without doing 6-6-6, are you not even permitted to do 6-6-6 on the 15th month and make yourself current again (with a safety pilot)?
Re: keeping MIFR current
you can do the appchs under vfr regs to get current
