AC 950 to Haiti

Post by Joseph Loiero »

Hello,

I'm working on a story for the CBC to air on The National tonight. I'm trying to find out some information about a flight that will help me paint a picture of what the course of a day would have been like for a passenger.

I'm looking for information about Air Canada flight 950. It departed from Montreal to Port au Prince last Tuesday January 12th.

I'm trying to find out:

How many passengers were on board?
How many crew members were on board?
If the crew stayed in Haiti or if they returned straight back to Montreal or another destination?
If there were any delays on the way to Haiti?
What the makeup of the passengers were? (i.e. mostly Haitian Canadians, mostly businessmen, mostly aid workers, or perhaps a mix?)
If there is a typical route or way of getting to the Hotel Montana from the airport in Port au Prince?

Also, if anyone knows who the pilots, flight attendants or passengers are who were on that flight your help would be greatly appreciated in putting me in touch with them.

If you don't know the specfic answers to this particular flight, general answers to these questions about the weekly AC 950 flight would be much appreciated as well.

I can also be reached at joseph.loiero@cbc.ca

Thank you kindly!

Joseph

As for the rest of it you might want to contact AC media relations.

If the crew stayed in Haiti or if they returned straight back to Montreal or another destination?

For Carribean flights, AC crew usually do a turnaround. A Haiti flight would be no exception, esspecially given the lack of hotels/security situation on the ground.

While security and privacy is protected as to the details of the flight, I will tell you that Air Canada has quietly been collecting for disaster relief onboard all flights. I just operated a Florida turn where on one of the legs the Flight Attendants were impressed with the generosity of the passengers where over $5000 was raised. Yup, that was on one leg.

Maybe you can investigate that positive story?
