Do I think it's bad class to promote your trip to Haiti? I don't know honestly, I know from the press releases it reeks of attention grabbing, regardless of the generosity.
I think what WestJet should have done here was keep their mouths shut about the whole thing, I'm pretty sure the press would have globbed onto it eventually anyway.
It doesn't change the fact that it is a great thing, but advertising it in anyway is a little much IMO... but that's just an opinion.

I doubt that the companies had anything to do with it but I have seen news clips with both AC and WJ planes in the background on the tarmac in Haiti. SO they are both getting exposure in the press for their efforts.

If you've never been responsible for promoting a high value event, I can see how you'd consider it to be "hype" but that's how the game is played in promotions....like it or not.
Gaining and keeping market share is what it is all about, if you don't like the way the airline markets itself, go to them with a proposal for a consulting contract outlining a newer, bigger, better, less expensive, more efficient way to obtain "face time" in the media.
Just hoping the newspapers or TV will eventually stumble across the product and maybe find it to be sufficiently interesting to warrant airtime or column inches is simply not good enough, and the CEO will be looking for a plan, not a "well boss, we crossed our fingers, and hoped it would work."
News releases are issued to media each and every day, and news crews are dispatched by the News Director or Editor to cover what is happening, often based upon following topics in those news releases. They don't just go out and drive the streets aimlessly hoping to stumble across a "man bites dog" story to feed the national news that afternoon.

Increased leg room compared to what? A sardine-class charter to the caribbean?BLZD1 wrote:This is what I find offensive! Including this garbage.
WestJet is Canada's preferred airline, offering scheduled service throughout its 67-city North American and Caribbean network. Named one of Canada's most admired corporate cultures in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, WestJet pioneered low-cost flying in Canada. WestJet offers increased legroom, leather seats and live seatback television provided by Bell TV on its modern fleet of 86 Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft. With future confirmed deliveries for an additional 49 aircraft through 2016, WestJet strives to be one of the five most successful international airlines in the world.
I am not say Air Canada is any better. But do not advertise as you are trying to help out people in need. It is not needed. I feel there is nothing wrong with World Vision advertising because they are looking for donations to help these poor people. Same goes with Goverement trying to please the Taxpayer. Taxpayer wants to know the funds are being spent.
A true giver does not need recognition for giving. I think I learned that before I was 5 years old.

Industrialized countries, multi-national firms, private and public companies profit millions from disasters like this. Consider the millions that continue to made by companies from the USA, UK, Canada, France, Germany (the list goes on) from post invasion Iraq. Engineering firms, construction, security, transport, etc...WJ, AC, or any other company than can provide relief effort to Haiti and ask for nothing more than tasteful advertising needn’t be scrutinized. I doubt the people of Haiti would concern themselves about WJ taking a few snaps for the scrapbook as thousands of pounds of medicine, supplies and numerous red-cross volunteers roll down the runway into chaos and anarchy.
Well done.
Well done.

CargoJet flew their '67 if I'm not mistaken, down last week. Covered on the video news, the newsies had to get special passes to get let on the field. Those sleazeballs!
