Carbheat, you must have put too many stickers & stars in it. I bet when Cat finally has to get his that he will have some of the fanciest red stamps that TC has ever produced pasted all over his. I applied for mine, then had a couple issues I had to call TC about and both times they asked me if I had applied, I said yes and... Oh is it on it's way? Oh no, it will take a long time as we are very backed up. So now that I have applied, is my "old style" license good until June 30th and what happens if I don't get it by then? I'd bet on the Dec. 30, 2010 extension as well. Maybe we can all get flight jackets and they can send us a big sticker we can paste on our backs so everyone can see if we are legal when we walk across the tarmac and climb in.

Cat your posts in this subject cracked me up. Then I got to thinking, they're probably going to force you to pay them for all those overdue medical cert. fees. If you don't come up with those only then will they knock your door down and taser you.

I still owe them some cash too, but they don't know my address anymore...

G5 the thing about this new license is the fact that there are far more important issues the regulator could invest our money in than forcing that hideous abortion on us.

If a new format is needed why did they not produce a credit card size license with all the info on a magnetic stripe and use modern scan technology to identify the holder.

Instead we get something that looks pre. Dead Sea Scrolls technology.

Speaking of which, for those of you that might still have the paper FAA certificate, it will turn into a pumpkin on March 31st:
Paper Pilot Certificates Expire March 31, 2010

Pilots cannot exercise the privileges of their PAPER pilot certificates after March 31, 2010.
Certificates issued under 14 CFR Part 63 and 65 will expire March 31, 2013.

FAR 61.19(h) reads:
Duration of pilot certificates. Except for a temporary certificate issued under §61.17 or a student pilot certificate issued under paragraph (b) of this section, the holder of a paper pilot certificate issued under this part may not exercise the privileges of that certificate after March 31, 2010.

Cat
I put my new booklet through the wash ! It completly destroyed the document the only thing left was the front and back covers with a bit of the plastic embossing inside. The paper is as good as Kleenex.
When I called TC they said that shouldn't be its made of the same paper as our Passports. My response to that was no it is not. I washed my Passsport in the same load! It survived and is still usable.
This was done in August I applied for a replacement document in early September. The said that there would be no charge for the re-issue. I received a new temporary [old style] licence and a new temporary[old style] medical certificate all for a price of $45 .Valid for 90 days The final straw is I still do not have the new style booklet they would not issue a new booklet until I have my next medical. The temporary stuff is now expired as it is only good for 90 days. To top this off the inspector that I have been dealing with on this matter retired on Jan 15. I may be posting on this subject again in the near future.

All the FAA stuff is online now - I can give them all my medical stuff online and just present my doc with a number so he doesn't even see paper. My license is a credit card with a swipe-stripe but my medical is still a paper form from OKC. I get a currency card from the trainer. TC is so backward and basically stupid I get p*ssdd off every time I look at my sticky booky. The new booklet with stickies was designed by an elementary school teacher.

The only part of the new booklet format I agree with is the picture. I was getting tired of my blue cardboard license disappearing for days at a time and getting an invoice in the mail for a x-country flight I never made!

I don't have much of a problem with the booklet, the only thing that pisses me off is they have gone through the trouble of almost replicating the passport yet it is not acceptable to enter the US with it.

beechnut, the first rule of laundry - check the pockets!

I just had to teach that lesson to my girlfriend, apparently she'd never heard it. I quickly jumped in the shower she thought she'd be a little sweetie and do a load which included my jeans and 1 day old cell phone in the pocket. Oh yeah we had some angry sex that night!

Judging by your new avatar niss, at least it looks like you found a use for one of the extra passport photos.

By the way, congratulations on the completion of your license. Now go put as much fuel through that plane of your's as you can afford. Have kids too, so you can be the cool dad at their school (the one who has a plane).

Got the new sicky medical today . Still no document booklet applied in September .Had to reapply again today and still not going to be delivered for 2 weeks. I know where I would like to put that sticky. Have to pay again for a temporary license if I want to work in the next 2 weeks.

Thanks,

I can afford a little less gas now that I ordered that airline pilots uniform online, but I do believe that to fly like a pilot you have to look like a pilot.

Is there anywhere on the old style licence (your temporary) that says it is expired, or when it does expire. That's a bunch of crap that you have to pay $45 again for them to run a piece of paper through a printer. I'd be fighting that one. I applied for my document in May, and still haven't received it.

Totally agree, there is absolutely no reason to be carrying around paper documents in this day and age. The information doesn’t need to be on a magnetic stripe all the information is available on-line so it is secure and cannot be tampered with and is available anywhere in the world.

You have to be joking.

That would be the fu.kin day I would pay them because they did not get a new format of my license sent out in time.

And these idiots wonder why they are not held in high esteem.

Best line here...and by the way, they have pushed back the deadline 3 times now that I remember so I wouldn't be too worried.

When we still had to deal with the blue paper ones, I didn't get the one with my multi on until past the 90 days, then one day I recieved my MIFR in the mail, and a couple days later the one for the multi. My IFR ride was done a month past the multi.

Moral of the story is they couldn't get a piece of paper right, they have no help getting a multi page POS together in reasonable time.

Finally got it in the mail. My picture makes me look like a rapist.

Here's a question, where is the radio license in the document? And couldn't they jazz it up with more airplane pics? Make it seem a little more piloty?

I'm thinking there should also be a stamp for your watch and sunglasses warranty.

You know, all your important pilot documents in one spot

i figure they tell you you're not allowed to smile because if someone is looking at it (i.e. TC) you'll probably have a pretty sour look on your face anyways for having to deal with them.

the radio license isn't a required document.

it boggles my mind that so many people put this off for so long. i applied for my booklet a year ago and got it within a few weeks (quicker than i ever got a passport) and get the rating/ppc stickers within 2 weeks of flight tests. not saying the booklet itself is the best choice, but what is gained by leaving it till the last minute and running the risk of not having a valid license?
