I have mixed feelings about the show. I think we have reached the point that it was necessary for the public to know the true state of security at our airports because otherwise nothing will be done, but there will be an economic cost. Still I'm thankful that they aired it just the same and while I'm skeptical about real improvements, I am hopeful.

I think shows like this should be air'd every week, untill the public realilizes that there is no real security at most airports, just the ilusion of security. As someone posted (and was touched on durring the programme) about the process they use in Isreal, that is what we need. Damn the people who say profiling in wrong, well so is blowing up a damn airplane! Metal detectors and xray machines are great at finding .357 Magnums, and tweezers but do f*** all for the creative ways terrorists are coming up with to hide explosives, not to mention that all one has to do is get employed by a caterer or ground handler or what not, because the screening they go through (if any) is much less then the pax go though.

The fact is profiling and real training work. We waste enormous resources screening a white grandmother traveling with her grandchildren, and tip toe around a single middle eastern man with a one way ticket.

In addition when working at YEG I was concerned that the wrong people are manning security posts. I had a neighbor in YEG that had just moved from Pakistan, but within 3 weeks he had his security clearance in hand and was working in airport security. I was still waiting, so i asked him how he could get his red pass so quick, he explained that where he was from there are no records as such, as a result there is nothing to check. He knew about the job before he left Pakistan as people in his community know that if they come to Canada they will immediately find work at the airport.

Can you imagine Israel handing over security to Pakistan or Palestinian immigrants?
