First Intercept Pool

Post by Invertago »

So, now that the security games are begun, lets place the bets on who will be the first intercept.

In my crystal ball, I see an American Private Pilot in a Cirrus charging through the zone and being intercepted. Not sure if he'll pull the chute or not though for the occasion.

It reminds me of the G-8 summit they held in K country a few years back and the no fly zone they set up for that. A guy from elsehwere in the province came in in his 172, not a problem since we were just outside the no fly zone. He then proceded to meet up with his daughter and took her flying before taking her out for lunch. Unfortunately for him he took her flying inside the no fly zone. When he got back from his lunch there were five cop cars all waiting for him. They had a very long talk with him at the airport then took him off somewhere for another long talk. I don't know when they let him go as I'd long since gone home but his airplane was gone when I got into work the next morning. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he quit flying after that experience.

What about the other side of the border? Part of the no fly zone extends into the US. Their air force is usually abit more proactive than ours.

Sneaking low level doesn't look like it's going to dodge the radar.

There's an Aurora doing long circuits over Vancouver; so, tell me, is it doing radar coverage for planes and/or boats -- or is it watching for Bin Laden sneaking in in a submarine?

Narrative: The crew of TGO 987, a Beech King Air, was being vectored for a LOC BC/DME approach to Runway 16 at City Centre airport (YXD) in IFR weather conditions. The aircraft was vectored onto final and cleared for the approach. The a/c was then observed to be descending well below minimum altitudes and turning east off the approach, while advising Edmonton ACC that they were conducting a missed approach - 10 miles from the airport. The flight was unable to maintain headings or altitudes. On the second approach, the aircraft was again observed descending below published minimum altitudes and provided an incorrect DME readout - 4.7 miles instead of 10 miles, while once again diverging from the back course, to the west this time. The flight was able to convert to a visual approach and land safely.

Narrative: UPDATE TSB reported that the Transport Canada Beech C90A, C-FGXH, operating as TGO 987 (CAR 703) was manoeuvring for a LOC BC/DME approach to Runway 16 at Edmonton City Centre (CYXD) in instrument meteorological conditions following a flight from Regina. After the aircraft was vectored onto the final approach track, ATC radar showed the aircraft to descend below minimum altitude and deviate to the east. The aircraft conducted a missed approach 10 NM from the airport. On the second approach, the aircraft again descended below published altitudes, exhibited speed fluctuations, and deviated to the west of the approach course. The crew was eventually able to go visual and land at CYXD. The TSB will conduct a Class 3 investigation into the occurrence

See ... I told you it was a Back Course, and make no mistake .... they can be brain busters .... you have to turn the opposite way to the CDI on those approaches planned by the devil ... oh, but wait ... the C90 has a nice little button with the letters "BC" on it that you push to cure the reverse sensing problem.

I thought you had to have an ATPL to work for those guys.

Hmm... but then again, I could do that! I've gone below the minimum altitudes before! AND I've gone off the back course before! :smt023 Maybe not enough to have to do a missed approach, and it was under the hood, but still..

What's their pension like? That's assuming they live long enough to collect it.
