MIFR renewal
My MIFR is expiring in two months. What will be the best thing to do? Let it lapse and hope I will get hired. Or renew it? If I renew it where can one do it for not an arm and a leg?
Thx guys

Re: MIFR renewal
If you are not too far away and have some money I would say go see the people at Cornwall Aviation. You can even rent a place for $100/week.

Carl: Hey, it's Duffman!
Lenny: Newsweek said you died of liver failure.
Duffman: Duffman can never die, only the actors who play him. Ooh yeah!

I'm in the same predicament and don't know what to do either. I simply don't want to spend another couple grand that I don't have, or could use towards other means.
Perhaps you can look at using a simulator. Some schools have simulators that can be used for MIFR renewals for less than the cost of renting an airplane.

Re: MIFR renewal
find a place that will do a class 3 (way cheaper) just to keep a valid rating if you get on with a place that runs twins you will have to do a PPC ride and that will get back your class 1

Re: MIFR renewal
My thinking is if you can renew a class 1 in a sim for less than the cost of renewing a class 3 in a single engine airplane, then perhaps you are better off? If you get a job flying a twin and only get a right seat PCC, then that will not renew your IFR.
Re: MIFR renewal
These guys advertise MIFR renewals starting at $599 - of course that doesn't include the examiner's fee, and is based on the lowest cost option (probably not a MIFR) and bare minimum time in the sim.

I'm wondering if there is somewhere in the Toronto area that offers a similar product?

Re: MIFR renewal
If you have experience (1000- 2000hrs) if you get a captain job somewhere they will train you for the aircraft and give you a PPC, which will renew your IFR. If you are a little lower time it might be best to renew it on your own, that way a company my hire you for a FO postion which might only require a PCC. Good luck.
Re: MIFR renewal
I took a look to see if I could find supporting regs but I couldn't. This doesn't sound correct to me, but do you have a reference to the regulation? (Hope I'm not jacking anyone's thread here, I just like to dig into the obscurities of the regs on occasion.) Perhaps I'm thinking of right seat PPCs and PCCs do it differently.ng78 wrote: If you get a job flying a twin and only get a right seat PCC, then that will not renew your IFR.
Re: MIFR renewal
A PCC is company issued, it WILL NOT renew a MIFR ticket. Most companies will want you to have a current MIFR if they are going to hire you for the right seat and simply PCC you. A PPC is transport issued document, the ride WILL renew a MIFR. But a current MIFR is always preferable for a hiring company because it's one less level of profiecency that they will have to worry about.
But that's just my take on it.

Thank you, I did find a reference and learned something new today, which is what it's all about I supposeGiveitago wrote:A PCC is company issued, it WILL NOT renew a MIFR ticket.

Re: MIFR renewal
At the end of the day, the real question is “how bad do you want to work in aviation?” Your prospects are better with a current class 1 IFR and if it is what you really want you will find a way to make it happen.
I'm going to knock this up a notch with my spice weasle. Bam!
