Pilot watches (that make me look cool)

Post by Invertago »

So, my ol timex is falling apart and it is time to get a new one... what do you cool folks on avcanada wear? (so I know what to avoid :P )

I want 2 time zones because math hurts my brain

I prefer digital and must be water proof.

Everything else is gravy.

Bonus if it matches my big yellow stripes I'll wear some day :P

The Mrs. forked out for a Casio G-Shock for me about 10 years back. 2 time zones, 12/24 hr settings, stopwatch etc.. Waterproof, shockproof, not ostentatious. Works at the gym, on the trails, and in the plane. And, if you lose it or break it, it's only ~ $150 to buy a new one. The Omega stays in my drawer pretty much full-time nowadays..

I still have the ANCIENT Casio I got for maybe $12 at some cheap department store years ago. It keeps amazing time, has the alarm and stopwatch features, AND the dual time zone -- which IS nice for flight planning.

It is so old, the band had stretched out and it was practically unwearable... it kept catching on my sleeve... but the guys I work with are awesome at sewing, so I asked one of them if he could do a quick-fix on it, because it is such a good watch.

If this is any hint of my stunning fashion sense, the guy burst out laughing and said "My God!! I used to have this watch in, like, third grade!!"

It's hard being on top of the trendsetters... :)

BUT -- if you want to be like the helicopter guys I work with, well... then HERE's you best bet:

And just remember- if you get a Breitling, only about 50 percent of pilots will notice it, and non-pilots won't care. They've never heard of Breitling.

Citizen - no batteries probably forever. The Omega hasn't seen daylight since the last overhaul which cost pretty much the same as the 'C' check on my car. :bear:

Got a Cardinal Crono Quartz on sale at Sears for $29.00 last year in YSB. It has 3 time zones, is digital + analog, night light, day/date, stop watch, timer, alarm and rotating bezel.

I bought myself a Torgoen T5. Not too expensive, not too big, stylish. I like.

Got a Tissot T Touch from the wife. Gives me altitude, pressure, temperature and also has a compass on it. Pretty handy at times. Got a fancy sapphire material on the face that wont scratch. Good when messing around under the cowls and forget to take the watch off. I like it alot.

I never wear a watch anymore either.

I have a Breitling stashed somewhere in the house but it weighs more than me and now that I don't get paid to wear it it will eventually end up on one of my grand childrens wrists once I head off to ravish my 72 virgins.

I saw that cartoon too - it was hilarious!

For years now, my watch has been the clock on my cell phone.

Well in that case, get your fill of WoW (or any other video game for that matter) in now. With the exception of welfare bums, very few new parents find time for that sort of thing.

I only really play one day a week these days (Tuesday is raid day) I'm not too worried about time though. There is quite an age difference between me and my little sister so I've done the changing diapers and feeding crap before :) Wifey is also going to be a stay at home mom for the foreseeable future so we should be in pretty good shape.

Anyway back to watches I just use my iphone as my time piece.

I might be missing something here, but why would you have both digital and analog on the same watch? Or is it analog to look fancy and digital because you don't know how to read the analog but you want to save face?

Oh, I know, we're pilots so it is redundancy, only PC12 drivers would ever carry a watch with only one form of time display. I assume you can't fly night or IFR if your watch is only analog, or only digital.
