Explaination: You probably haven't ever had to hot start a tightly cowled R2800
Well congratulations B.P.F. you finally found something to comment on about what I have or have not done that is factual.

You are correct, I never had to try and hot start a tightly cowled R2800 because the only airplane I ever flew with 2800's was the DC6 and we were flying the northern routes out of Yellowknife in the winter and hot starts were rare.

My comment about blipping the primer was directed at pilots doing it every start regardless of the conditions.
My, my a bit touchy this morning aren't we

Naw, not really touchy I just get slightly annoyed sometimes at the petty B.S. that seems to be part of the aviation syndrome especially some pilots.

Wasn't the fuel shortage more to do with a "bad batch" of fuel?

I will go out on a limb and say this fuel situation may have motivated the DC-3T build?

If the mods don't delete this I was just wondering if the owner is as much of a hard ass as they portray in the series or is this creative editing?

I'm sure that as much as a camera adds 10-15lbs to your appearance, I am sure it also jacks up ones response to anything. You have to remember it's not a documemtary, it's soap opera for pilots. There will be hissy fits and things blown way out of proportion. I would love to sit and have a brew with Joe. No I am not looking for a job, but if I was I could learn to do the job the way he wants it done in a hurry. It's very simple really, He who has the gold makes the rules. And I think I have learned enough to do it safely and inside the rules.

I would say he is no more of a hard ass than any other business owner/operator in any line of work. I have spent 25 years in the oil patch and have ran into a lot of guys that were a LOT worse than Joe looks on the soap opera. I think if you want to work in the real world, be prepared to get shit on some times, and learn from it but don't take it personally. Times are changing though, the new generation are finding a kinder gentler way of doing things

Let's keep it on topic boys and girls. If you want to discuss something that has nothing to do with Buffalo or the TV show, start another thread.

first air due being able to use diesel fuel (jet) and could refuel there in eureka, where as buffalo would have to carry their own return fuel and there fore the bid was higher from buffalo. but it worked out that buffalo was able to get it anyway due to some other problem at eureka i believe
I believe he said Mondial Aviation won the contract.

Finally got a chance to see the final episode. In general very entertaining, but still just TV, so take it for what it's worth. As for Jeremy, some life lessons were learned and again it's a part of the journey, if all us ol'farts think back to when we were 21, I don't think many of us were a whole lot different. Now that I've turned fifty I'm starting to fly with the kids of friends and former coworkers, I have to say it's alot of fun, you get to see a glimps of your former self and yes I was that green at one time.

My first multi crew job was as an F/O, flying a DAK for a mining company. The first question asked of me in the interveiw was if I had any back problems, should have clued in at that point that it wasn't my good looks :smt040 and flying skills they were interested in. That job without a doubt, was the turning point that has me where I am today.
