Puck is dropping
Well, everyone, the puck is about to be dropped, and our national identity crisis will be decided...
Hopefully the committee, and those who made money on the Olympics, will remember the family of the athelete from Georgia...that is an international embarrassment for Canada, IMHO, and we have to find a way to resolve it with dignity. Suggestions welcome.

Re: Puck is dropping
Phew, Canada pulls victory from the jaws of defeat. Sad to think that, had Canada lost this game, the Olympics would have been a failure in the eyes of many.
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Re: Puck is dropping
I can't tell if some people are being extremely apologetic or are just trying to stir up controversy when they bring up Canada's "international embarrassment" over this luger's death. I just don't think this controversy is the huge deal some make it out to be. Sure, the British media have jumped all over our apparent "greed and nationalistic frenzy", which is total bs considering our generally modest reputation in the international community - they're just worried about their games in 2012. Our own internal conflicts over security, cost, cronyism etc. is something else entirely and are common problems for hosting countries. The luge track was designed according to the federation's specifications, and despite some obvious design flaws the track was approved by the athletes who raced on it earlier in 2009. I'm not saying I'm not saddened by this preventable death but to carry on and on about our collective responsibility for this among other so-called "shames" is just...

Sure! They just might be nicer than the Indian reserves in other countries!Cat Driver wrote:Do you include all the Indian reserves in that statement? Here's a suggestion. Just be glad that you live in the best country in the world!
I was in a native community today and everyone I ran into wanted to talk about hockey and the Olympics. I'd say everyone is happy the men's team beat those dastardly Americans.
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself

By asking a serious question you feel I'm an idiot?Absolutley...I'm Metis....you're an idiot!
O.K. let me try again.
What real difference is there between South Africa's old Apartheid system which they finally got rid of and Canada's reservation system?

Canada pours billions into the reservation system each year. South Africa did not.Cat Driver wrote:O.K. let me try again.

I am hardly hiding behind a computer monitor, as I do not hide behind a made up name as I also use my real name. I take it your real name is piston?Yes, because you would not of asked me that question to my face. It's easy to hide behind a computer monitor.
I also am part Indian and therefore feel I have the right to question how this country is governed.
So please get off that hiding behind a computer insult as it is not true.
This will be my last post on this subject because the thread will just get binned.

Hockey, hockey, hockey!!!
Hockey, hockey, hockey!!!
Hockey, hockey, hockey!!!
Way to to Canada...
And not just to the hockey teams... this truly is a historic moment in Canadian history. I doubt any of us will witness anything like it ever again.
Cheers.

Re: Puck is dropping
It was a intense nail bitter game! I could care less about the NHL, but Olympic hockey rocks, the players actually represent their country are not traded mercenaries for the highest bidder.
All and all Canada was very successful in the games, top gold count ever??? The hockey win was just icing on the cake and meant the party would be bigger and longer at the end. Canada rocked!!!! and as an added bonus, we're almost done with Vanoc... I won't miss them!!!

Re: Puck is dropping
LOL... I wasn't alive for that, but I'm certainly familiar with it. I've watched the tourney several times. Me and a friend were discussing which is really a bigger goal and we both agreed the 2010 Olympic Crosby goal has taken the lead considering all factors. Host country at the Olympics, record gold medals, finish off by beating the States (beat them in Salt Lake on their soil and now ours) and also because we lost the Juniors and the Americans wouldn't shut up about it (even though we've won it the previous 5 years).Siddley Hawker wrote:Still not as great as Henderson's goal in 1972.
But it's still nice to smile and think about that great goal almost 40 years ago!!!

Re: Puck is dropping
Agreed. I wasn't alive for Henderson's goal either, but it seems to me that it was great because it sealed the deal on a bitter rivalry. As you say, there is so much more to Crosby's goal, it went beyond just the hockey game. But that's just opinion, I'm sure alot of old timers that watched Henderson will still hold on to that one.

Just kidding guys.
I didn't watch Henderson's goal either, I was listening to the game on CFCB Cornerbrook, on the # 2 ADF of a Northern Wings DC-3.

Just so you know, I wasn't laughing (LOL) or mocking your initial statement. Many people would argue what you said to be true. They're both great goals and magical moments for Canadian Hockey. GO CANADA!!!Siddley Hawker wrote: Just kidding guys.
