Any chance for an european pilot?
Hi everybody,my name is Luca, I'm an italian FO flying for Alitalia. I'd be interested in joining Westjet because I think it's a great company and I'd like to live in Canada with my family.
I'd like to know if I have any chance to join WJ as an european pilot. I hold the JAA license and I'm ready to convert it. Is it possible to do that after passing the selection?
Is it difficult to be legally entitled to work in Canada?
Any other infos will be appreciated.
Cheers, Luca

Luca
before you think about conversion you have to apply for immigrant status in canada first. without you have no chance.
then you can think of converting your license then you can apply to westjet,

We have, that I know of, a pilot who emigrated from Russia to work here and one fron France. Not sure of what they did but it is, apparently possible! You have to do the work as WJA, more than likely, will not be involved.

Re: Any chance for an european pilot?
Hey Luca, any chance you live on the second floor?
Doesn't matter I suppose. In any case, I hope you can make things work to get the right to come and work for us in Canada. This country was built by immigrants and WestJet has plans to become a top 5 world-class carrier by 2016. Who knows what value you could bring to our organization? Be persistent and ambitious, and perhaps you and I will spend 4 days together swapping life stories in the front end of a 737NG (or bigger).
Ciao.

Thank you all guys, I know It's a long way to go and maybe this is something more similar to a dream rather than to reality.
Anyway I'l try to write to Westjet explaining my intentions and my expectations and we'll see... In any case it's great to have the possibility of having a contact with pilots on the other side of the world!
I live on the ground floor...but I like that song!!!
Ciao!

From their website, if you don't have work permit etc.... not much chance. DAVEP what is your read on this
-Legally entitled to work in Canada.
-Hold a current valid Canadian passport. If you are not a holder of a Canadian passport, you require a Canadian Permanent Resident Card and any individual Visas necessary to enable you to perform the duties of a Pilot wherever WestJet operates on a scheduled and charter basis. These locations are subject to change from time to time, but currently include the countries of Canada, United States of America ("U.S."), Bahamas, Cuba, Mexico, Panama, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Netherlands Antilles and Honduras.

Hey Luca,
You aren't by chance from Barcelona and formally a flight instructor in California? I worked with a Luca down here that returned to Italy to try for Alitalia...

Re: Any chance for an european pilot?
Luca Sceda was his name and he was from Bologna, not Barcelona...that would have been my sim partner, Jordi...honestly, I am not that geographically challenged

Re: Any chance for an european pilot?
Vettepilot, sorry for the delay in responding to you. I don't know any Luca Sceda. I took a look to the pilot list and he's not inside.
Maybe he's working for another company.

TyrellCorp, merely a strategy taken from any sales handbook:
Underpromise, Overdeliver.
