Need home work
After some years in this career I now have a good job. I only work 2-3 days a week flying a pretty nice A/C. The pay is not that good but the life is great. I am on call 24/7 except for my CARs days off. Just wondering if any of you have found some home based work good for pilots on call. Not any of the get rich quick things but real jobs you can do from home for some extra cash

Grow ops are very popular these days; easy work and not much risk. Just remember; one of the tell tales that always gets people caught is the high electricity bill. To avoid this problem, I suggest an out of the way place where you can run gas generators all day and all night. After all, who's going to know if you're buying more gas than usual?

Day trader
go take a securities course, will take you 3 months, and get an education on investing. Save a couple grand (see above will also take 3 months) and learn to trade online. Pick 20 stocks and read everything you can about the companies, and try it out. The company you trade with should give you stock updates as they are released. There are a few good stock trackers online that you can subscribe to, that will show you trends and cool graphs n stuff.
I know guys that have full time jobs and do this durring the day. They get updates all day on their blackberry's if they are away and e-mails if they are at work. They use it to suppliment their income.
Pays better than reading avcanada all day...sometimes.

Day Trading is a good way to make money but you still need to come up with a nice sum of cash to start investing. You'll likely need 10K to see some results, otherwise the commisins will eat up all profits if you're just playing around with small sums. You can always trade on margin (something like borrowing to invest) but that's risky. Currency trading is done on margin.

Leveraged property. It's not rocket science, and fairly low risk. You shop around and buy and apartement or small house that needs work. Preferably with a previous owner that simply had really crappy taste in colours etc... Work on it in your spare time (it's a second job)
There's no capital gains on a primary residence. So as long you not living in a place like Uranium city when it went bust way back when, you can get a very good return on your money.

I don't think day trading is the solution...The leading authority on Day Trading based in NY claims that on average, their top traders bring in a 12 % return over a lifetime. That's considering they enjoyed such booms as the 200 % starbuck share and the 200 % downfall of RCC or Sum Co. etc..
Reading up on companies won't cut it...Most of you guys work for a company that will eventually fold before you even know it so how can reading up on a Co. help you understand the various ratios for equity valuation?
And how about Taxes? Day trading is ridiculously taxed...
I say a more steady, streamlined investing strategy is the way the go...You won't have the income right away, but it will come and it will be guaranteed! Real estate is another good way to go...Get some people renting and paying for your house.
My 2 cents...

My all time favourite would be quality assurance in a whorehouse but Cat Driver would cum along and I would not be able to bear the competition. . Actually, a good part time job would be any one of the many home based businesses such as telemarketing or something like that. I have had the same thoughts myself.
The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

I've been wondering about the same thing. The other day, this guy standing outside Timmy Ho's gave me his card and asked if I wanted to make "up to 7 grand a month extra". When I asked him what I'd have to do he just kept repeating his catch phrases about up to 7 grand over and over again and said I'd have to call him.
I think I still have his card if your interested.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.
