jca is trolling this form.
he is getting the reaction from everyone he trolled for.
his facts are wrong,he can't prove a thing and thinks the reason Canadian companies
are heading south to under developed countries is because of their skill and professionalism.
give me a break,as i have mentioned many times.....IT'S CHEAP plain and simple.
as for camc, if these retired ex-military,government,educational,lobbyists types and what ever other useless tools make up the camc group ,get a hold of
the licensing in canada, we will be making the same wage as .....say....south american countries!{maybe then we'll get our work back}
he is right about canadian aviation being a mess,i will agree with that one.

Um, the moderators are removing, editing, and just plain ol' censoring posts for "personal attacks" etc, but this whole thread was started as what? There were no questions asked or no topics up for discussion, just one big, blatant slander (read: TROLL) against the industry in Canada. Dear Mods: Go find the head from ass removal tool. I'll call Bull S**t on that.
I doubt you even qualify to get a Canadian licence and that is why you are trying to pi$$ everyone off on this forum.
JCA some would say you are a legend in your own mind.

The A&P license is the easiest license in the world to get. You don't need any training and only minimal experience to get it.

No AMO's? I guess I can throw my ACA stamp away then (I knew they were lying to me)

No manufacturers? I guess Bomabardier spitting out 400's (and until recently 300's) and RJ's (not to mention those pesky Global Expresses) counts for naught. We wont even count Viking Air just yet.
Don't they still make helicopters somewhere in Fort Erie and Montreal????? What about Pratt and Whitney in St Hubert and Toronto (Mississauga/Brampton). Who makes landing gears out in Oakville and Ajax?

But who am I to criticise? If only I had studied harder I could have gone to medical school.......

Good god!!...this is probably one of the worst threads I have seen in this forum. This type of crap is why I am trying to refrain from posting on this site now. It is to hard to make your way through all the nonsense that is being put out there.

You got guys here trying to tell you how it is "out there" that haven't even finished school yet (or started school yet). Then you have some experienced guys telling the new guys that this is a quality trade....how can you say that?? Trust me if I wasn't backed into a corner with a house,cars, wife, kids, etc...I would have left long ago.

There are jobs out there but nothing great. Do I like aviation? sure I do....but it is not the industry it once was. The industry is bogged down with low ticket prices, taxes, fees, fuel costs, labor, and thick red tape. If you have a decent gig now, hold on to your seat and if you don't run like the wind.

Working on advanced aircraft is mechanical persons dream but the wage is gross...I certainly don't kill myself at work which is the only saving grace to this job.

If you are thinking of getting into aircraft maintenance please listen to what these experienced guys are telling you and go another route, and if you do you will have a better life....if you don't and decide to do it anyway I'll see you in the unemployment office some day, or at 3am outside on the ramp some cold winter night.

Just remember: that once you get the AME license;you still have nothing!!!! TC have turned it over to the employer to issue an ACA. Now the employers are using this as a barganing chip to keep the wages down.

Cranium: Upon what is your assessment based regarding Canadian Standards being higher than American? I just finished acquiring an A & P Licence last week in New York. I've been an A/C mechanic 25 years and believe me it was not easy. Had to write General (60 questions), Air Frame (100 questions) and Powerplant (100 questions) in same week (in fact on successive days.) On the following Monday the applicant is subjected to a 30-45 minute oral exam in front of an FAA inspector (don't remember TC doing that!). If you are successful in this session (three questions wrong in a row and you fail and $500 goes down the drain) then you are privileged to take a 6-8 hour practical exam (again TC does nothing like this).
Please don't compare one country to another. TC has determined the way to assess a candidate as has FAA. Both work. I will say this. If TC cared more about the mechanics they would adopt the American system of helping the mechanics be successful. When I returned last week I could have passed any of the TC exams (save CARs) with my eyes closed. BTW they were effectively the same questions, nearly word for word in many cases.

Longer experience requirements, school is required instead of an option to get out of the practical (or vice versa).

I do like the idea of a practical exam, though.

Very good point Cranium about the experience and training requirements of the States. I don't at all understand it and was told while in the States that young guys attempting the tests and the practical exam immediately upon qualifying time wise have a difficult time and often fail. Absolutely believe in schooling before touching an aircraft. This does not automatically diminish the FAA method nor by default make the Canadian system better.
I agree with you the oral and practical exam should be employed here though.
Does TC have a history of taking the advice of mechanics?

JCA ignorance is bliss and I'd say your fairly blissfull. I don't get your point yeah the A&P is easier to get , EASA is harder ... do you want all the answers to the exams too . Please do the public a favor and please stay away from any aircraft with that attitude and knowlege .
Are maintenance jobs leaving the USA and Canada. Are standards being lowered to save $$ . Yes to both questions .. result .... we will see eventually . Corporations have no flag loyalty unless it is the Dollar bill run up a pole with JCA's picture on the back getting humped by the Airline CEO . The body bag business is a good future investment I'd say .
