Air Canada wins step in bid to serve Toronto Island

Now this a great news. It is such a pain in the ass to take a taxi from YYZ to downtown. Even a shuttle to downtown is an arm and a leg. This advancement for AC will attrack lots of new business because now instead of Joe Smoe Business man having to fly in to the International and pay for a taxi in to the city, he can fly directly to the island airport and be right there.

However, the question is how will this new service be charged. Will AC charge a fair dollar or make this an expensive service. Also, what routes would AC draft for service into the Island. Say from YUL, YOW, YYZ...

But yes, if this goes through, it will be a new route that will bring in it's fair share of revenue. The reason... DEMAND!!

During this time, the airline also allowed its lease with the airport to expire. As the BBTCA continues to grow into a world-class facility, it is important to the TPA that passengers have the opportunity to access new routes and additional commercial carriers. I was under the impression that AC was chased out of the Island airport and restricted from having flights to the island Airport but this article is quite an eye opener.

I don't think Emirites will ever begin service to the Island.

And on aerodude's post, I say let Emirites come to Canada anyday. It's not like your gonna start seeing Emirites doing a YVR-YYZ run so let them serve as an international carrier to and from Canada. Other than their First Class on the A380 and B777, I would rather fly AC anyway.

Are you sure? I think the A380 can easily depart the Island at MTOW on 08/26. Pretty sure they also installed arrestor cables for this purpose.
