The red was the ad.
Okay, I'm pretty sure that the only operator of DC-4s in Canada is Buffalo and there are none too many L-188s around. So aside from a few Airspray pilots who might want to work in the freezing cold all year (instead of relatively warm weather half the year) who is going to be qualified for these jobs?
Or is this a chance for previously terminated Buffalo pilots to regain their employment?
My sentiments exactly. With all the free advertising, you'd think pilots would be lined up. Maybe it's really a troll to show the insurance company there are no pilots in Canada qualified or wanting to fly there.
Put my name on that list

Maybe they just want some guys with more than 250 hrs? You know for the bomber contracts, and whatever the Electra's do (besides sit parked on the ramp waiting for parts).
Doesn't say experience on type, and I surmise it would be for tanker contracts. So, that's a few months of the year NOT in freezing cold, anyways!
I wonder if P2 experience qualifies..?

I can see some older, high time guys doing contract work for a couple of summer months for them, with a prepaid return ticket in their pocket. That's about it, though. Guys with lots of round engine time, mixed with some heavy twin time should have no problems with a DC4. Not on MY "bucket" list, however.
Okay, my bad. But the statement is ambiguous and the closest thing to qualifying it is the aircraft types listed above. Perhaps that was intentional to dissuade the bug smasher pilots?
Seems like they very suddenly need a new driver for these two types. Perhaps a little drama has just played out up in Yellowknife that should make for good TV this fall...

I admit it. I'd love to fly an Electra. Don't think I would be able to jump through Joe's "hoops". Worked for companies in the '70's....don't want to go back there. Don't need the "politics".
Oh, and just to clarify, I am not interested in working up there either. Joe's reputation preceded his appearance on the show and I have no desire to move to the Blade, cut my wages, and double my working hours, all for the 'chance' to fly an Electra or DC4.

I'm with you Doc. I'm more of a modern aircraft kind of guy but if there is one airplane with some age behind its vanity, it's the Electra. I'd love to get some stick time on this bird!!
The only air tankers I worked on were the Conair machines; they only had the D13s with water meth and steam gauges...
The 5800 was a pretty sweet machine also, with glass, lighter empty weight than the original C-580 (due to lighter wiring and smaller tail surfaces) and 4000 HP of D22 goodness....
Work is available, crews are needed 'on type'
Agreed it is tough to find crews for the L188 with experience on type, especially flight engineers.
The only other solution is to train new crews on the L188 and that is why the AD was placed.
Large Turbine/piston experience would be benificial.
DC4 Tanker contract is coming up....

400mph at a great F/O mileage rate keeps me happy...
