Transcapital DHC7 Ad
Looks like they've got themselves a new overseas contract. Can anyone PM me any details? Also looking for first-hand company info as well. I've got lots of time on the DHC8 & looking for dash jobs.

I am NOT being rude, but maybe PHONE THEM?
The ad says at least 500 hours DASH 7, but then my number one rule of job hunting is "apply for every thing you want, not just what you 'think' you can qualify for..."

I am NOT being rude either, but maybe if you have nothing helpful to give this fellow aviator then perhaps you should keep your "advice" to yourself?xsbank wrote:I am NOT being rude, but maybe PHONE THEM?

Honestly, why can't someone just ask for a little bit of guidance?/advice without someone giving them the benefit of their "expertise"?
If you don't know/can't help/won't help then for Christ's sake keep your opinions to yourself.

That being said, why is it when some poor sop dare ask a question on one of these forums he/she is treated with such open hostility/rudeness/general douche-baggery that they are made to feel as if they had just stabbed a baby panda in the eye with a stick rather than having simply asked a question? It wasn't that long ago when I, yes, I, the amazing Toeless, had the audacity to ask a similar question about (gasp!) Voyageur, and was immidiately reported to the thought police for having dared ask a question outside the parameters set forth by a select few here on AVCANADA. Or I was called an idiot for having asked, I really can't remember. Seriously, quit hijacking Biggles thread and give him/her an answer already or get the hell off his/her thread!

OK, that last part may have been directed at myself.

xsbank, I think you have missed the mark on this one. I have had the experience of gonig over the details of employment with the company doing the hiring only to find out after I'm halfway around the world that much of what was discussed was not true and much was left out. I think the employment forum is exactly the right place to ask these questions. Possibly Biggles may find someone that has been there and point out areas to go over in more detail before he accepts a position or gets in too deep.

I actually thought I was being encouraging but Toeless, you can kiss my

all right, all right ... you kids play nice.
XS has a point, though i think some of it was lost in translation of being read instead of said. I am planning on calling them, but wanted to get as much info first so I can ask well thought out and specific questions. There really isn't that much out there on these guys and there is only so much that some receptionist, HR person or CP/ACP will say on the phone.
And I have been applying for just about every job that I think I want. I'm not applying for those that I know I wont. That's all this industry needs -- another disgruntled pilot wishing he/she was flying elsewhere. Trouble is, hiring is in the doldrums and I'm in that nasty little place where I'm overqualified for some jobs and under-qualified for the ones I want.
Anyhoo, enough griping. Like the original question said: if there is anyone out there with first hand info on the company please pm me. Lets keep this on topic. I'm not just kicking the tires like someone at a car dealership, I'm looking to educate myself and make an informed decision to ensure this is right for me. I'm sure all of you can understand that.

Seems like it might be a cool gig.

Anyone know what "overseas" might mean here, besides the rest of the world?

Previous overseas destinations include: *UN Flying* http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3527/381 ... 8e7b9d.jpg
Katmandu, Monrovia-Liberia, Abidjan Cote D'Ivoire
Current overseas destinations include: Port-au-Prince Haiti and Kabul, Afghanistan
Unless you are interested in being a contractor stay away. Unless anything has changed (which from what I understand it hasn't) this is not a good outfit to be with. Whilst the opportunity to experience another culture and live overseas is great the poor treatment I saw/experienced did begin to far outweigh the positives. Having also worked for the other 'overseas contractor' discussed on this board I would highly recommend the latter.
Regards and safe flying.

Re: Transcapital DHC7 Ad
My understanding was that there was no training bond at Trans Capital as pilots had to pay for their own rating....no money back whatsoever.
Correct ???

uhhh yeah...i'm surprised no one really talks about these guys. everybody's always in a hurry to bash VAL but at least VAL givess you your money back (don't work for them and never have). anyways i was offered a job on the 7 last year with trans capital but was told i needed to pay for my type rating....like full out. no training bond nothing. pay for the rating and the jobs yours. i love how the called it "and investment in your career" at the interview. my investment was my bloody cpl!!!!!!! anyways i decined and thanked them for their time..with a bit a giggle.

Re: Transcapital DHC7 Ad
considering that there were only about 100 dash 7(dhc-7) built byt the time production stopped in 1983-4 ish . pay ing for a type rating definately is not cool on this bird there isn't there only tindi and the coast guard in canada
that operates them and since the dhc7 is not grouped with the dash 8 (correct me on that if im missunderstood ) the owners should realize where ya gonna go?
great airplane most excellent short field seen on take off out of cznl back in the day but 25k not.

Re: Transcapital DHC7 Ad
$25 000 for dash-7 type rating , hard to swallow and justify. I did not get a call from them either I applied and with dash-8 and fokker 50 time in the thousands hours PIC level , I felt somehow qualified plus I know africa well having flown there before on four engines airplane .I will not pay $25 000 just to get that job period. so nothing gained nor lost.
