Looking for website with Camping for Aviation
Any good website out there that tell you if an airport has a camping spot when you land.. so you can set up your tent. Have nice shower - then spend couple days there then fly out.

Yeah, COPA is good but doesn't categorize.
The US one is rather new and just starting out, it should be good once up and like you say, it may be a subscription.
You may find something here -
http://www.adventurepilot.com/Default.aspx?tabid=36 And be sure to add any places/attractions that you are aware of to the list, please!

Where are you and where would you like to camp?
Try these sites:
http://www.backcountrypilot.org
http://www.supercub.org/phpbb2/index.php
http://www.shortfield.com/index.php
They have many threads on Alaska and the Washington/Idaho/Montana state operated fly and camp airstrips but there is some info on Canadian strips. And the trip reports are always fun to read!

Re: Looking for website with Camping for Aviation
AOPA has a searchable database of airports in the states, one of the search options you can use is Camping Allowed. Have to pay for a AOPA membership tho.

Re: Looking for website with Camping for Aviation
Guys,
We had a local guy( based out of NB9) with a C-150 a few years ago had a wife that was into camping and he thought it would be a good plan to try combine his love for flying with her love for camping. The plan was to fly to Killarney Ontario, spend the day and do the tourist thing( fish and chips, etc) and then pitch the tent off the ramp in the bush and fly back the next day. Everthing worked great until it got dark. He didn't know that the dump was on the other side of the runway. They usually get 16 -25 bears show up every day. At about 10:00 PM they felt that someone was pushing the sides if the tent in. She poked her head out and found herself face to face with about 6 bears. She started skeetching and scared the bears away but they ended up in the plane and watched as the bears ripped the tent apart. Once that was done they would come up and push on the plane. He started the plane and tht would scare them off, but it was 1961 model with a generator instead of an alternator so it had to be running at a fairly high RPM to charge the battery. They ended up taxing up and down the runway all night and catching short naps. The bears kept following them and he didn't have a night rating. In the morning the bears were gone and they just loaded up the torn tent with the coolers, sleeping bags and other stuff and dragged the whole mess further into the bush. Apperently this was his fault and the 1.75 hour flight was the longest flight he ever made. She wouldn't shut up and all he could do was fly the plane in silence on the flight home.
Be careful what you wish for,
Jim

Re: Looking for website with Camping for Aviation
That was SOOOOO funny !! I remember camping once at Killarney airport, in the sand ,,didnt know the dump was nearby and didnt get bear bothered!!! I bought a plane in BC ( small homebuilt) and flew it back to ontario,, had weather/ wind problems and landed after dark in thunder bay , Transponder non-existant and it seemed i had nav and beacon problems ( didnt have any) but tower wasnt sweating it lol.. I was TIRED, so i pulled up to the esso dealer and asked if i could tent there, sure no problem,,,the next day , I awoke with a CF-18 and a B-747SP nearly howering over me ( unpaid dues or something) well, i must have saved 100 bucks that night ,,,so i wasnt too embarrassed about the situation . Perhaps someone should write a book about fly-in tent spots ,,,,and better yet, a comedic book about adventures gone wrong , flying and tenting etc !!
