Rogers Cell Service in Northern Sask?
Will my rogers network phone work in La Ronge and other north Sask communities? Where does the 3G network drop off?

Check there map on there website. Don't think you will have coverage up there. Rogers is only along main highways and in major cities in Sask.
Re: Rogers Cell Service in Northern Sask?
La Ronge yeah, Stony Rapids, Fond du Lac and those places not a chance.
Re: Rogers Cell Service in Northern Sask?
I checked the map and double checked by calling Rogers. Supposedly no coverage in any of those areas it all ends in Prince Albert.
I assume Sask Tel is the only game north of Prince Albert. They do show coverage in La Ronge, but the map doesn't show Stony Rapids, Fond Du Lac? I've read through their website it doesn't sound like they support 3G either so I assume my I-phone will be pretty much useless??

Re: Rogers Cell Service in Northern Sask?
Rogers has no coverage in most of Saskabush, I can tell you that from experience. Even in between the major centers thre are large gaps. As much as I don't like any of the phone companies Telus has the best coverage there and get my grudging endorsement for flying in Saskatchewan. None the less, try to have a back up plan for closing a flight plan other than your cel phone.
We can't stop here! This is BAT country!

You need "B" band CDMA. That ain't Rodgers. As far as I know it's Telus or Bell. There are also small local carriers such as TBay tel.
I don't think there's any coverage in Stony Rapids.

I had Rogers when I move to Northern Sask and they had 0 coverage. Only phones that piggy back off the Sasktel and/or Telus network will work. Bell and Virgin included (CDMA).

Re: Rogers Cell Service in Northern Sask?
Rogers does not work in anywhere north of PA. U-City, Fond du Lac, and Stony have no cell service what so ever. I hear the equipment is up there it just needs to be installed but Ive heard that for almost 3 years. Points North and all the cameco mines has service through sasktel and wollaston lake picks up a signal on the reserve side and the airport from collins bay. Saskatchewan is still old school with cell phones. only cdma phones with bell and telus will work outside of major cities. ive never had a phone with 3g so cant comment on that

Actually Sasktel has the best coverage in the province. Bell and Telus piggy back off Sasktel. 3G will be in Saskatchewan July 1 2010. If you have iphone with either one it won't work in Saskatchewan until then.
2010 news releases
SaskTel Excited About New Wireless Network
Clarification of comments made regarding iPhone
April 16, 2010
In 2009, SaskTel announced the construction of a new $172 million Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS)/High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) wireless network. The first phase of the new network build, which will provide coverage in the major Saskatchewan centers, is expected to be available mid- 2010. Full coverage, similar to today’s digital cellular coverage, is anticipated to be available by the end of 2010.
At this time, SaskTel is currently working with cellular device vendors and partners, both current and new, to offer our customers a wide variety of devices to meet our customers’ individual needs, including the iPhone.
The comments made by the SaskTel President and CEO in a news article on April 15, 2010 were not a confirmation of a release of a new version of the iPhone. The President was commenting on information that has been reported publicly and on the Internet for several months, which has speculated on the timing of a new release.

Re: Rogers Cell Service in Northern Sask?
Rogers only has coverage for 90% of the population. There installed network coverage is really small. Compared to bell and telus
Telus, Bell, Kodoo, Solo, Virgin are all on the same network. They have agreements with the Communist phone company's in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, check hardware requirements.

just go with iridium, it works everywhere.
Re: Rogers Cell Service in Northern Sask?
Koodoo = Telus youth brand. Sole = Bell youth brand. Telus/bell just upgraded there networks, but there still supporting there old phones. This will be years. Its was only a couple years ago Analog phones stopped working. Telus still supports Car phones from the 80s. Logging camps use them and industry.

Quote: "Check there map on there website."
Rogers's maps are untruthful. In areas shown as having coverage there is sometimes no coverage on a permanent basis. There are "black holes" in the middle of cities where coverage is always absent. In other areas it is intermittent. Rogers is the subject of unresolved complaints to the Commissioner for Complaints for Telecommunications Services and various Better Business Bureaux.
As confirmation of the above, on 24 November 2009 the BC Supreme Court ruled that Rogers must stop claiming that it is Canada's most reliable network. The court and the competition, including Telus, were of the opinion that the Rogers network is not as reliable as Rogers claims. A company of normal business integrity would have admitted its failings and set out to remedy them. Instead this untruthful and obstinate company had to be dragged in to court and made to cease its false and misleading advertising.
