Still dreaming of that job eh?

I don't work for AC but, you can not bid to stay longer in a destination (think about it for a second).

As for all the other flights, it depends when the returning flight is. If it is a daily flight, you will stay for a day. However if it is a 3 or 4 weekly for instance, some of the flights will be short, some of them longer (2 or sometimes even 3 days).

Hows your PPL coming along?

With any airline job you can bid for layovers that are longer but can't bit to "extend" your layover.. normally anyway.

Generally speaking if you wanted you could bid Zurich layovers with more than 28 hours on ground for example. Before you bid for your flying you can look through what is called a bid package- lists all the pairings that are available for that bid period. If its in there you can try for it but as always seniority rules.

Some of the senior dudes don't like long layovers because they generally mean low credit..so the junior guy still gets a shot.

This is how it is. Sit in airplane for 8 hours (or more). Land in (for example CDG). Wait for bus. Sit in bus for almost one hour. Go to hotel. Sit again, waiting for rooms to be ready. Take short nap. Feel like shit. Go for dinner. Go to bed. Then fly home. Feel like a zombie. Then, when you get back to "normal", do it all over again....
Now, 20-30 years ago, it was a different story. My advice? Stay away from overseas stuff. Not good for your body or soul. :smt120 Some guys like it, and thank God for that!

...Seems they are going to remove the axe and the control column from the cockpits for security reasons.
