Another Vancouver thread
Hey so here I am looking for some real info maybe more so thru PM but anyway I can get it.
I have been moved to Vancouver, after about 3-4 years chasing my dream the wife got a huge job offer and took it. So I am in the dreaded land of no work(not my words but the words of posters here) and wondering how long one might wait to get on here.
I have 1600hrs mostly multi with about 600 turbine, I have held a PPC for the ho, who is out there that I should be talking to?
Pay should be decent for self respect but I have to say she makes enough to carry us.
Schedule can be anything except outta town rotations, have child care to think about.
Have a basic Float rating and wouldnt mind the dock for some time if it lead to right seat.
Thanks for the info ahead of time

Re: Another Vancouver thread
I do believe that Nothern Thunderbird Air has a Navaho or two out of YVR. They were based out of the south terminal as I remember.
Re: Another Vancouver thread
I'm not going to hold my breath that your going to get even a half decent wage, but besides that you have CAC, Orca, Pasco, CMA, Hawk Air, Sunwest, Carson. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Good luck.transplanted wrote: Pay should be decent for self respect but I have to say she makes enough to carry us.
Vancouver is not the land of no jobs, it's the land of low pay.

You could be right, I know for a fact that they used to have them but that was a few years back.

Thanks for the info and PM's
Keep the info coming as you hear it, I do have a case of beer for a good lead or is that too much like buying a PPC?
FLYBABY
I will keep on CAC, Orca, Pasco, CMA, Hawk Air, Sunwest, Carson and I dont mind the low pay I just want to fly.
I wouldnt take less then the rest of the crew I just knew before moving out here the pay was not anything to count on.

And that is why you will get lower and lower pay for pilots.and I dont mind the low pay I just want to fly.
What you in effect are saying is you are not worth much.
The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Yes I did say "I dont mind the low pay I just want to fly." But I also said
"I wouldnt take less then the rest of the crew I just knew before moving out here the pay was not anything to count on." pointing out I knew it wasnt going to pretty moving out here and also saying I wouldnt lower the already crapy situation by taking less.
I never even came close to saying I am not worth much, but again your the guy with soo many posts whats your time worth,
I DO THANK THOSE HELPING AND CAN SEE WHAT I AM SAYING WITHOUT BEING SO OVERLY ENVOLVED
Please dont respond CAT

Hey bud, don't get too worked up about the trolls, you will find them anywhere and everywhere on the internet.
As for your question, your best bet might be Carson, CAC or Orca. Not sure if they're hiring but I know things are slow at CMA, NT, and Hawk Air. Your time seems not too bad - I would avoid the docks/ramp if you can since you are past that stage with your kind of time.

Lets try a resurrection
Any inside info for one of the good guys, still looking while working at the golf course. If I cant fly might as well get free golf.

Hey man, keep bugging Orca and CAC. Work dispatch there if you can while waiting to move up.transplanted wrote:Lets try a resurrection

Also, give places like the Esso Avitat or Shell Aero station at YVR a buzz, see if you can get on there. They would want you to commit to working there for a bit, but you'll make loads of contacts and set yourself up nicely for a job once your committed time is done.

Re: Another Vancouver thread
You should expand your sights to include the island. KD air in Qualicum Beach is always looking for a good PA31 driver. Its SPIFR but a good company and good machines. Be sure to check them out. Lars is a decent guy to work for..and if you can cope with his better half..even better for you. You may also want to look into Victoria, many float ops there and a few ops that run PA31s. If you get on the island, its an easy commute, especially if your on with one of the float ops that sked daily to YVR from the Islands.transplanted wrote:Lets try a resurrection

Re: Another Vancouver thread
There are no 703 piston twin operators in Victoria at this time.
Re: Another Vancouver thread
There are large line ups for pretty much all flying jobs on the west coast right now, as far as the Navajo drivers go, it isn't really an issue of who has how much time, its an issue of they're not hiring until they have vacancies.

Here is an interesting related thread with some high time guys looking.
I know people working at Orca, KD and Island Express, I can tell you that there are no resume shortages these days, you could have 10 000hrs MPIC right now and you wont get flying. No (hopefully no) employer would fire a current employee for one with more experience (if they did you don't want to work there anyhow, plus the high time guy will leave asap anyhow). Hours are nice, but the music stopped a year or so ago and those who have seats are staying put. Patience is vital right now, if you need money, take a non flying job, if you can afford to, take a vacation, it will pick up, everything is pointing to an economic recovery so stay tuned.

Re: Another Vancouver thread
Well said. It still amazes me how quickly things change in the industry. Back in 98-00 all you needed was a CPL and a few hours experience on floats and you were flying out west. Now a 10000 hr guy cant get a job. You said it well, be patient, it will turn back around again soon enough. The 7 year cycle in aviation is a real thing!Invertago wrote:viewtopic.php?f=13&t=64425

Fly safe all.
Re: Another Vancouver thread
The million dollar question is... how far into the cycle are we??? Any takers? I'm thinking half way, 2006 was a boom time so I'd put us at the bottom of the curve starting the upswing this year... hopefully?flyinthebug wrote:The 7 year cycle in aviation is a real thing!
