Rudder Pedal extensions
Has anyone come across any temporary rudder pedal extensions?
I have a former student, now licensed, who is a short guy - 5'0" tops
He wants to be checked out in the 172 but he has a tough time reaching the pedals in the bigger plane. He did his initial training in the C152.
I'm looking for any information on these possible extensions?
Anyone else has simmilar issue? hear of anything?
Many thanks,
Mc

Rudder pedal extensions are available for c-172's. The Calgary Flying Club has a couple of sets. They are quite expensive but worth it for the vertically challenged. The PRM there could probably provide you with a part number if you wished to order them or call Cessna directly.

as a vertically challenged pilot meself...I used the pedals on a 172 for part of my training...they cost a lot though, so some flight schools may not be able to (want to) afford them (I heard $500?)
Sooo, another instructor of mine (also on the short side) encouraged me to quit using them...you'll have a hell of a time finding them to use out in the industry. Very good point.
I used a cushion, only a couple inches thick, and that was enough for me. (I am very short, with very short legs) and now that I fly in da bush, I found an old life-preserver cushion to use. Works just fine.
You'll have to encourage him though, it is not as comfortable without those pedals, and feels shitty when you don't use them, but persevere, it all becomes comfortable again after a couple hours.
Hope that helps, but do try and get him away from that idea...if he's 5'0, that's tall enough.
edited for not had my coffee yet this morning.

I thnk Cessna has an equipment list that caters to those of special needs, I would contact them directly, they are usually quite helpful!
185, After the winter we've had, many of us will be trading in those extra pounds! I can barely get my flight helmet on these days

How about an Obus Forme? They don't look as gay as a normal cushion. http://www.comfortchannel.com/prod.itml/icOid/131,
I used to use one when flying Jet Rangers since the pedals didn't move far enough back for me plus it moved me forward into a better position to hold the cyclic.

If you have problems seeing over the dash, the ObusForme is also available with a formed cushion for your butt. I use one in my car for the additional back support, and found that using it with the bottom cushion is even more of an improvement. Good thing for me that VW's have a fair amount of headroom, because there's no way that I could use that in one of them other compact cars that is engineered for smaller folks.

Please don't tell my mother that I work in the Oilpatch...she still thinks that I'm the piano player at a whorehouse.

OMG, do I have advise for you, too many friggin days of dragging a dumb cushin across the ramp in YXL, and crawing out the emerg exit of the 99 to get on top of the wing and check the oil.
best one I had was a seat like the ones they use in gliders
