Okay Grouchy, I'll Bite. Restricting Duty Hours
Here is the soap box Grouchy. Go ahead and make your pitch.
There's no pitch really.
What would reducing the duty day do for, or to, the industry?
I want to find out the consequences of reducing to 12 hrs duty, no more than 8 hrs flying. Or some other combination. The 14 hr duty day is put in place as far as I can tell by the efforts of the business side of the industry.
I can see that companies will seek exemptions to duty hours based on airplanes like the 7e7 which can, I believe, fly for 19 hrs. Even the skipper of an ocean liner is off the bridge sometimes. I know about cruise relief pilots on longer flights but the companies would have been dragged kicking and screaming to hire another guy for that position.
How would it affect float operators? I know a guy who crashed 2 times in a week because he was sent to the moose hunt with no relief and expected to work dawn till dusk for a couple of weeks before hand.
Does it have the potential to introduce more opportunities for pilots to get jobs?
Lets see what happens from here Ahramin, and thanks.
Just checked out Meatservo's sticky, it follows along.
