Freelance Instructor for Night Rating at Barrie/Springwater

Post by Jungle Jim »

Does anyone know of a freelance instructor that I can use to get my night rating with using my plane? It's a Stinson 108-3 based out of Barrie/Springwater during the summer. I'd like to make my night flying legal this year.

Any referrals would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

Give National Flyers Academy a call or come in for a visit, we're there a lot of the time and we could do your rating on your plane with you at CNA3.
(if the lights ever get fixed!) We'd have to do a bit of flying out of Lake Simcoe Reg (CNB9) most likely.

There's a few free lance instructors out there, but they're really hard to find usually.

I did speak to the guys there last summer, before I had the anticollision light installed on the Stinson and the only tailwheel instructor was Tony. He seemed too busy with his regular day job, ground school classes and other students. The other instructors seemed interested if I was to supply my plane for them to get a tail wheel endorsment so that they could in turn instruct me.

I wasn't too keen on that. Is there anyone else there now that is tailwheel current?

Ignore JetJob, He was let go from Future Air for being too hairy.
FA are probably the only ones qualified to do a tail night rating in your neighbourhood.

Definatly Give Future Air a call. Ask for Jose. His number is 705-446-1139
I have been flying with him for the last 4 years, (ever since I was just an abinitio and now Im finishing off my instructor rating) and have never had a problem.
Hairy man doesn't know what he's talking about.

I find that really funny!! Since when did it get the required equipement for Night VFR?

Power-driven Aircraft - Night VFR

605.16 (1) No person shall conduct a take-off in a power-driven aircraft for the purpose of night VFR flight, unless it is equipped with

(b) a sensitive altimeter adjustable for barometric pressure;

(c) a turn and slip indicator or turn coordinator;

(d) an adequate source of electrical energy for all of the electrical and radio equipment;

(e) in respect of every set of fuses of a particular rating that is installed on the aircraft and accessible to the pilot-in-command during flight, a number of spare fuses that is equal to at least 50 per cent of the total number of installed fuses of that rating;

(f) where the aircraft is operated so that an aerodrome is not visible from the aircraft, a stabilized magnetic direction indicator or a gyroscopic direction indicator;

(i) a means of illumination for all of the instruments used to operate the aircraft;

(j) when carrying passengers, a landing light; and

(k) position and anti-collision lights that conform to the Aircraft Equipment and Maintenance Standards.

(4) In addition to the equipment requirements specified in subsection (1), no person shall operate an aircraft in night VFR flight under Subpart 4 of this Part or Subparts 2 to 5 of Part VII, unless the aircraft is equipped with

(a) an attitude indicator;

(b) a vertical speed indicator;

(c) a means of preventing malfunction caused by icing for each airspeed indicating system; and

(d) an outside air temperature gauge.

Let go...or LEFT? Future Air has lost 5 great instructors in the past year and a half. The flying was crap and the prospects for moving up in the company were nil. Don't get hung up there!
