This new Recip jumpseat procedure is great!!!!

Post by TA/RA »

Well done Air Canada! I just travelled on FD passes for the first time since the new system was put into effect. I checked in online was issued a seat right away and don't need to pester the crew for the elusive cupon! To top it off every empty seat on the plane is now available not just as many as there are jumpseats. Well worth the $12. Thanks AC!!

Now everyone please don't forget to thank the crew eventhough u don't have to request the cuponnon person.

Thanks again AC & Jazz

Interesting. Can I ask from where to where did you travel for $12? I think the price is based on distance if I'm not mistaken.

I don't believe the Recip(FD Coupon) being referred to has anything to do with distance. It is the AIF and security fees being charged. For 12 dollars, my guess would be YYZ since they don't charge airline employees any AIFs.

I was traveling out of YVR. I think it is dependent on the AIF at the departure airport.

That's still about 1/2 what AC employees have to pay.

It's about 1/4 of what Jazz has to pay.

TA/RA, I don't look at introducing yourself to the crew as pestering or bothering. Once upon a time before 9/11 that "free" ride was actually in the Jumpseat and you had to make a point of requesting it from the Captain. Reciprocal agreements are negotiated between various pilot groups. If it is evident that one particular group regards the privelge as a right then you will see that agreement disappear.

The current process at AC might be very convenient for everyone to use however on the flight deck side of things, we no longer know when someone is asking for, or recieving the recip jump unless the "r-jumper" introduces themselves.

Pestering and introducing are 2 very different things.... I always introduce before and go back and thank after. By pestering I mean bothering a crew when they are doing a quick turn and are running behind and them having to come up to the gate or try and track down a cupon...

I just recently flew recip on Jazz, and I was told the limit was still there. Can someone shed some light here?

As far as I know the limit still applies. The only change being that there is no paper coupon and you have to call employee travel to get a pnr.

It was the gate agent that told me about no limit, so he very well might have been wrong. apologies

I'm not so happy about the new procedures. I'm an FO for Compass Airlines and I've been commuting between YYZ and DTW for 2 years using our recip agreement. It used to be free, which was a mistake obviously, but very nice. Now, they charge me all of the taxes out of YYZ, so it costs me $53 to get to work on AC. Meanwhile, Delta only costs me $25. Why the difference? Is this a mistake on the part of the employee listing personnel, or is it simply the new reality?

Something is wrong. You are supposed to only be charged the fees charge to AC. I just went in and simulated a booking. It came to $25.84. AC just started this up so there may be errors or quirks. I suggest you go to your Recip jumpseat rep and have him/her follow it up with the counterpart here at AC, otherwise it likely won't get fixed.

By the way you are the second person I have heard strange fees from. The other was transboarder as well.

I wonder if for some reason you were charged the YYZ AIF? $25.00 plust GST?

The new policy tirggers the AIF out of YYZ. GTAA does not recognize reciprocal jumpseaters as employees under the new system therefore they do not receive an exemption from the AIF.

I hope that is not true. It would be a first for the GTAA. It is not happening with WJ or others to my knowledge with their Recip program. I wonder if it is just AC deciding to charge?

Can you provide some solid evidence? I'd like to pass it on if that is indeed the case. PM me.

There is not supposed to be AIFs, Vancouver doesn't exempt anyone and they are twice as much as 12.00. I inquired and it's supposed to be the security charge, so worth looking into for sure.
