Great job, could have used him downtown Toronto a few weeks back (thought our FD did agreat job with athat blaze). So in the first pic...is it as dry up there as it is here in Ontario (the lake evaporated??), or is it normal up there to see a fishing boat sitting on the side of the road???

If I see my house on fire, I'll just give Fire Center the coordinates and tell 'em it's a Rank 6. :smt040

The fire was started by some dumb-ass BBQing on the roof.

Great Slave did a good job reading the situation and getting things going before they actually got the call. I was at the airport when the chopper lifted off, but he went the opposite direction and flew around over there for 20 mins before actually going to the fire. By the sounds of it Great Slave scrambled everything and sent the chopper out on a "training" flight, so that when they got the call, they were able to be there in 2 minutes!

I am sorry now a can't resist. i have a couple questions.

1. If they were airborne 20 minutes before the call did they call or get called
2. Maybe it was more of a PR job then help

Regardless good job

Loitering around for 20mins isn't cheap, wonder how much they got paid for it? PR certainly, but at the end of the day, no flames, which I dare say is a success?

Nothing official - just the word around the Knife. I was up there the day after it happened and that was the word on the street.

A buddy just sent me an email. He says that in the paper yesterday the deputy fire marshal say's was not a BBQ and had nothing to do with a BBQ. They are still investigating.

Nice pics! Once that chopper went up there the fire was out in no time.
Good for GSHL for donating all revenue to the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Fund!

It is a great deal for the fire from the helicopter. Anyway, the roof is made of concrete so the fire doesn’t’ get big that much. The concrete is really better that some other roofing.
