Re: Fort Good Hope-Horrible news
I imagine that I am among many of the Avcanada fraternaty who didn't know Bill, or had no idea where Fort Good Hope is. Yet I am probably not alone in feeling deeply saddened by this young man's passing. Other than the obvious reasons, I cannot say why I feel that the aviation world has become slightly darker this weekend, only that it reminds me of when my friend, and colleague, Ed Huggett passed on 5 years ago - it would seem that the senseless waste of yet another pilot's life has brought to light what is most important to us all. Hold your friends close, and your loved ones even closer, and please, fly safe, no matter what temptations this wonderful vocation may throw in your direction.
RIP.

My condolences to friends and family as well. So sad; so senseless.

My thought are with the family friends and coworkers. Terrible, terrible news indeed.
On that note, I will reiterate what I was told many moons ago. If you're going to F*ck around with an airplane.. make sure YOU are the only one who is ever at risk. Do not put anyone on the ground or anyone else in the plane in danger, regardless of whether they agree to it or not.

Indeed. Let's never let something like this happen again. Ever.Rowdy wrote:

Just curious was this the one that happened on Lake of the Woods? The Old Fogducker wrote:I had the most unpleasant experience of interviewing a pilot who had hit a good friend in the head with a float as he was taking pictures during a buzz-job with a Cesna 180. His buddy was standing up in a boat, camera to his eyes, and the pilot decided to give him a good display for the camera.
He hit him with the keel of the float, and spread his brains all over the boat.
The pilot quit flying for life after that, and not surprisingly went on to have a great many social problems, eventually "drinking himself to death" as the expression goes.
There is a smilar scene in the movie "Catch 22" where an L-4 cuts a guy in half that is standing on a raft.
There is something huge to be learned here folks ... one moment of inattention or mis-judgement, and these little fun sessions can go bad in an instant. You could kill a friend very, very easily with our "toys."
The Old Fogducker
Another thing to remember is that looking throught a viewfinder in a camera gives poor depth perception not to mention that you're not fully aware of your surroundings.

Yes Sarg ... it was in that immediate area. Forgive me if the specific location escapes me at the moment. Approximately 1983.

This should be posted on the safety board in your ops room for ALL pilots read.
Re: Fort Good Hope-Horrible news
Services were held for Bill yesterday and today in Guelph.
Friends, co-workers, and family travelled from all across Canada to be there, it was a fitting tribute to the great friend and colleague he was.
Here's to you big guy. Gone but not forgotten, your memory will live on
